Hey All--

So I'm in the process of trying to sell my stepson's KX125, and got the following email about a purchase--

Thanks for response.. I am okay with the condition and price of theitem..I'll want you to remove the advert from web and consider it soldto me, I'll be paying via Certified check and the check will deliverto you as soon as possible via Courier service..I will need the belowinformation to send the check to you..Full Name To get the check send to youStreet AddressCity, State, Zip CodeTelephone Number***Note*** I want you to know that i would be responsible for thepickup. When you confirm that you received the check and it cleared, iwill have my Mover come for the pickup at your location..I will bewaiting to read from you as soon as possible so that the payment canbe issued out and this transaction can come to an end..NB:- I willwait for the check to clear before the pick up. I docompensate you with $20 for you to remove the advert from the siteThanks..

Granted, it's not a "I'll send tons more for your troubles, then screw you when your bank finds the check is bogus" kind of email, but something just doesn't "feel" right about this one. I know what most of you will say-- If it seems to good, it is-- and I really don't want to get burned. However, there's something about this person's grammar that worries me.

So, majority rules-- what do you all think/feel/provide input about this??? And thanks for your help..........

ask a question or talk to him at a higher level than a mass email can show. tell him about the pistons or try to see if you can "discourage" him from buying it.

Pick a sentence from that email with a typo, copy and paste it into google and watch the scam results light up.

Generally, only scammers use generic "courier services."

I sold a Harley to a couple that sent me a check. The check cleared, I waited about a month because they wanted me to hold the bike for them. I finally delivered the bike because I was tired of sitting on it. You might want to do a little more checking into this.

Or it could be that they want all that info to come and rip off your bike while you're not around?!?
No, they want the info to send him a forged cashier's check. It'll clear with his bank, at which point the bike will be picked up by some moving service the scammer has contracted, and only after around another 2 weeks will the bank find out the check was a forgery and immediately take the "deposited" money out of the seller's account.

Edit: Living in Africa myself, I have to go through serious contortions to convince people I'm not a scammer. The most awkward part is explaining that I have a US shipping address from which my employer forwards my mail and packages...sounds very much like the language many scammers use...

i went through this when i sold a fork to someone in Germany. he had a US shipping address in Chicago for his company, who then sent his stuff to him out there. i was a bit apprehensive, but it worked out in the end

that's a scam. i've gotten plenty of emails that were worded just like that. anytime i get offers with, give me your address, phone # etc and that a check will be sent with THEIR courier service picking it up i delete it right away.
