I am about to get a magicshine, they are awesome. I have been riding with people that have them and they're incredibly bright for the price.

MiNewt Dual on the helmet and on the bars. Plenty of light, but I wish the batteries lasted a bit longer. Probably doesn't help I forget to charge them well before ride time and probably only get a 75% charge....

The MagicShine lights are good, but I don't see why more people don't use the Cre flashlights?

I have one of each of the following:
Cre MCE-2 (m-bin) flashlight for the spotlight that I mount on my helmet- $40
Cre P7 flashlight that I mount to my bars as a flood - $35

The chargers are maybe $7, and Li-Ion batteries are $4 each. Helmet mount and Bar mount maybe $3 each.

So for a total of maybe $90 I have TWO lights, each of which is about as bright as my old HID. Batteries are only slightly larger than a AA battery, and you could carry as many as 10 of them no problem. Each one lasts 8 hrs on low, 3-4 hrs on medium, 1hr on max.

IMO, the best part about these lights is that there are NO CORDS!! Nothing is better than being able to take off the camel back without taking off hte helmet at the same time.

I'm also a big fan of one light on the bar and one on the helmet. The bar light gives you a great sense of "texture" on the trail where you can easily discern the little bumps and ripples ahead of you. It also keeps the area right in front of the wheel lit up. The helmet light allows you to peer around the corners. When I used to run a helmet only, I found that the trail would get all washed out and some berms and stuff would just look like a white wall. With the bar added in there you can see exactly where the corner is and rail it with confidence.

I'm really interested in those Magicshines as well. For now, I did a bit of tinkering and made my own lights. Had a bunch of those "1/2 brick" 6v batteries and 20w or 50w bulbs, so I bought some wire, switches, and bulb housings, and am quite pleased for now. Granted, I don't know the exact run time, and those batteries are dang heavy, but it gave me something to do.

Light & Motion Stella 200L.
I was using a Jet Lites HID setup before it. I liked the brightness of the HID, but it was too heavy/bulky. Really digging the Stella. Very small, light, quick charge.

I bought it because I wanted a light that would last past 5-6 hours. This one will supposedly work for 8 hours at the low setting. (I do some long night rides sometimes).

I have a pair of Marwi NightPro halogens, they're old but they work fine on the trails. I'f one of my Marwis broke and I couldn't fix it I'd go with the MagisShine that MoffQ is talking about. Too bad the Marwi's are tough and I'm cheap.
This is a cool site that sells parts to convert your Marwis to SSC P7 LED emitters.

I just got the Magicshine for Christmas and I am very happy. I have about 4 rides on it so far, I am amazed at the brightness. A lot of ppl try and compare higher end lights to it and so fr everything i read the Magicshine comes pretty close if not better.. $89 shipped.. you cant go wrong

I sell this light and have used it. I like it. I still have working HIDs, but will likely replace them with something like this. I can see pretty well with one. With two, it'd be golden.
When I tell folks how much it costs. They usually want one. The beams are very useful. As soon as I can I am going to put the mity on the bar and use a Milion 200 as my helmet light....

The cost and the weight sell them. I did a night ride with the whole system on my helmet and it's lighter than the light on my Lume. Super value in the $200ish range. They could be a touch more refined for looks, but they work super well. Several customers use them on the road and have them mounted to stem and bar. Makes me wonder how people are selling $600 LEDs.

I have an old Marwi dual bar setup also - it has always worked. The cam latch on the bar clamp leaves a little to be desired, tends to come loose, but they were reasonably priced and proved to be reliable.

coleman 100 lumens $24.00 at wal-mart why under $50 bucks one on the helmet one on the bars..
To match the lumen output of 2 magicshines you'd have to have 12 of those torches.

MS might not have the best light pattern and it certainly is not the brightest, but you simply can't beat the value. It doesn't make sense (to me) to spend $400 plus on any one light when you could by 4-5 MS's.

It will be interesting to see what kind of lights will be available in other year or so.
