Hey Guys

Hoping to be doing a season at whistler, thinking of taking 2 bikes!
Of course the DH bike will be coming, but what else should I take?

I have never been and dont really know what to expect?

Wondering if I should take a DJ bike or an All mountain jobby?

If there are plenty of parks/dj's etc, then I guess the DJ bike is the obvious answer?

Thanks guys!

There are plenty of jumps around, but the trail riding in the valley is truely epic.

If you wear super skinny jeans and are in your early 20s bring the DJ....else the AM.

I'm pretty equal parts dj dh, and xc, and so that's a really tough question. :D

I'll be honest though. Last years dj setup at whistler proper really wasn't all that great. I don't mean to bag on the guys working there because they were trying some new things for sure. But the end result wasn't what I would consider as something that overshadowed the insane amount of good trailriding within an hour two drive. It would be kind of a crime to be out there all summer and not see as much of the awsome high alpine trails in the area as you could.

If you dont ride all mountain in Whistler you are only riding 5% of the available terrain. And i'm not including Squamish, Pembie, or N VAn in that 95% either.

Trail bike. Go explore and blow your mind. Some of the valley trails give you stunning views and the trails themselves are a work of art. Start getting fit now too.

I've done 2, week long trips where I had the luxury of bringing 2 bikes.
First, make sure you have the security situation dialed. Nothing is more nerve racking than checking out of a hotel and trying to find a place to secure you second bike.

The 1st trip, I took my Turner Rail. A-line and the other jump trails are really fun on a short bike.

The 2nd trip, I took my hardtail, and only rode it once. It wasn't worth the effort. We have DJs and skate parks at home.

If I did it again, I would take a bike that is burly enough to ride a-line, but with the gears to pedal the valley.

I agree with this...I rode my FR bike in both the park and the valley and it was perfect (blindside w/ totem), granted you gotta hike some of the hills in the valley but it was all good fun with buds just taking it in...

If I had to pick 2 bikes it would be a full dh for the park and a bottlerocket type bike with a long seat for the valley, and DJ's if you build it well.

I am going to Whistler next year and am taking two bike as well. I will have my DH bike and also my Cannondale prophet. The prophet has good enough geo and 140mm travel so can handle a bit of DH but set up with a dual chainset, basher and roller I can also ride XC on it all day. My bro (UK Elite rider so not slow and also a bike breaker) rode his prophet for about 2 months in france and although everything on it is roached the frame is still crack free. I just hope I have the same luck as they don't make them any more.

Thank lads for the replies!! Maybe a AM bike is the way forward!!

I think its probably best to get the am rig and if cash is ok, buy a cheap ****ter dj bike out there!

Was thinking a Commencal absolut SX as a do it all bike, but I reckon they are far too short for some serious AM days out! TBH, I have not really ridden XC for years, so i would love the chance to get the clips back on and EXPLORE!

Thanks again boys!

I rode a Giant ReignX up there last time and the bike slayed the entire mtn and we also rode Khyber and some other off piste stuff. You'd honestly be fine with only one 6-7" bike but if you can bring two why not...

sweet vid! I love raw, natural trails like that so much more than the groomed stuff. Groomers are great and all, I'm just sayin'...
the lower section, I'm wearing the chest cam following seb, is the super tight trees and really steep....I call it the loamsled track....the builder found decomposing logs and stumps and filled the trail tread with said material....it's like riding a sponge, so amazing....the upper part is classic whistler 'xc' style, steep tech downs punctuated by short intense up and/or techy rolling traverses....perfect to keep the shuttleheads disliking it...
