I got the "Band of Brothers" DVD set for my B-day this year. Hopefully, The Pacific will be as good or better than BoB. Looking forward to it.

I don't know.... looks like Band of Brothers the Remix or something. More of the same, it seems....not totally a bad thing, but not something I'm looking forward too if it isn't anything new.

it's NOT anything new...it's HISTORY. BOB was a fairly accurate historical account of the 101st Airborne's actions in WWII in Europe, this new series covers the USMC island hopping campaign and should be incredible if it's as accurate as BOB. just replace the frozen woods of bastogne with steamy hot, malaria ridden jungles..and Marines of course ;).

wishing i had HBO but i suppose i can wait for the box set.

My dad watched the planes fly over his house when he was a kid on their way to Pearl Harbor.

On Oahu?
It's kind of weird Kaneohe Naval Air Station (now a Marine base) was actually attacked before Pearl Harbor.

This guy John Finn John William Finn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:John_William_Finn.jpg" class="image"><img alt="John William Finn.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b5/John_William_Finn.jpg/200px-John_William_Finn.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/b/b5/John_William_Finn.jpg/200px-John_William_Finn.jpg won a medal of honor there, but Wiki incorrectly states that it was "during the attack on pearl harbor" which, while maybe technically true, isn't where it occurred.

Another thing about Pearl Harbor that jumps to mind... when I was stationed in Hawaii (I did PR stuff, media relations all that on Kaneohe) they had some big anniversary, and I had to go pick up this old guy and take him to the hotel and ceremony..he was a Marine, who was credited with shooting down the first Jap plane at Pearl Harbor, and did it with his rifle. Picked him up at the airport in uniform and all that, he seemed to be excited to be back there.

I meant anything new in terms of the genre. You can do lots of new things with history on a screen.

Im over here now
the action scene was great, but Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers was shot like it was actually happening, not like they were trying to remake the war 50 years later

Disappointing first episode, and I likely won't get to see any of the rest. Grrr on both counts. Hope it gets less cliche and better as the series goes on.

Acting seemed terrible, too, but maybe it was the jetlag from 30 hours of traveling that made me grouchy.
