So this is completely different then Spring Thaw, correct?
Completely different area and race. The City of Jacksonville is celebrating their 150th anniversery and decided it would be nice to have cycling events as part of the festivities. They approached a local promotor and got the ball rolling.

I'm involved in the Southern Oregon Freeride Association. We were approached to help build some sections of trail for the Super D and to map a DH course. I haven't ridden the track yet as I've been busy with work and now, injury. I can promise you this; It's no Spring Thaw! The first half of the track is an old skidder. My GPS puts the total course at around 1.6 miles with 1100 feet of elevation drop. Most of that drop is in the first half. It's Cat 1 level for sure!

I will hopefully post riding impressions and some photos when I'm well. :thumb:

Good to know, good to know. I have never ridden in Jacksonville but I've done Spring Thaw and the Super D as well.

Looking forward to it! Is that 2 weeks before Spring Thaw?
Cliff- what'd you injure? Is it serious?
Spring Thaw is scheduled for May 15 & 16th this year. (4 weeks later.)

As for me, I've been having knee issues. I'm waiting to see an orthopedist for a MRI. Maybe surgery after. Well see...

Here's a few teaser pics of the course. There's still work to be done here and there, but it's coming together...

Squirrel trail:

Steep!

Left hand sweeper.

Coming into a drop to the left, or roller to the right...

Drop landing:

Drop run-out:

S-turn section to a berm:

Sorry for the quality, these were grabbed from our Facebook page. (Thanks Mike.) This is just a taste of the trail. Hopefully more pics to come...

the same weekend as the PA ProGRT?

-KT
I dont think there are many riders from southern oregon that will travel to pa. Id like to but money is tight for home builders in this economy. Thanks for the pics cliffy. I havent been up to see it yet! Been working weekends and then my fork died. Now I have a hole in my foot. I really want to get up and help though. Looks great.

Any chainsaw work needed? I saw the cute john deere in the pics. I spent three years running a saw on fires.

Saturday practice with shuttles for DH?
Hard to say. You'll have to get in touch with the promoter for that info. The Super D's on Saturday though and the last part of the DH course will have racers on it, but not all day.

This race is more focused around the OBRA schedule than anything nationally. (Except Sea Otter was a factor. Didn't want to schedule it that weekend.)

I think most of the saw work has been done. I missed the last 2 workdays due to illness, but I'm hoping to scope it a little more this weekend. They're planning work days every Sunday until the race now. ;)

I assume it will start on top as the same place as the spring thaw/fling. is there going to be room to bring my race trailer or am I going to have to park in town?
This race isn't in Ashland actually. Jacksonville is Northwest of Ashland...

There should be plenty of parking in the various staging areas on John's Peak, but I'll warn you: the access road is pretty rough... Saying that, I can get just about everywhere in my 2wd Toyota. Staging will be near the finish with a shuttle to the top. The road to the top is real nasty. Race day shuttles will be done in a 1977 M2 6x6!

I finally got up there to ride the course... and its way better than I had expected it to be. Its pretty damn fast. Amazing corners, tight trees and its pretty rough all the way down. Im very impressed. Its steep but the way people talked about it I expected strait down. Overall I think its gunna be an awesome race course.

Hey cliff. I rode the trail again today and I love it even more. My question is where is it gunna end or where is the finish line? I figured it would be about where the creek is when you come out into the open onto the granite. At least i really hope so. The pedal would suck it they take it all the way to the road.

That's correct. Right near the little stream crossing. The promoter could change his mind though... Uphill finish lines (yeah, I mean YOU Spring Thaw!) are pretty lame on a DH race...

Thanks. I hope its right about there. Even the section before it is pretty pedally if you want to go fast or at race pace. Im in pretty damn good shape and I was spent at the bottom. I love it. Although I about died on the little wooden drop right before the short section between trails. It almost needs chicken wire.

Helmet cam vid of the trail. Just vid nothing fancy. This was my second run down the course. I dont think Im at full speed at all. I lost my rear brake on the flat between the upper and lower trails.
