Would Shimano SLX M 665 rear hub work for Demo 8? Is axle diameter really 10mm as it says in specifications?

Specifications:

• Disc Rotor Mount - Center Lock
• Freehub Body - 8/9-speed compatible
• Freehub Body Material- Steel
• Axle Type - Quick Release
• Over Locknut - 135mm
• Axle Length - 146mm
• Axle Diameter - 10mm
• Axle Material - Steel
• QR Skewer Length - 168/173mm
• Stainless Steel Ball Bearings
• Spoke Holes - 32/36 holes
• Hub Shell - Aluminum/anodized
• Center to Flange (Right) - 22.1mm
• Center to Flange (Left) - 35.3mm
• Average Weight - 384g (64g QR)

I am also considering building up front wheel with SLX 20mm hub and I would use wheels just for race runs ;)

It's a skewer in the back as far as I know. The actual axle that the bearing cones screw on to is 10mm and the skewer passes through that.

What year Demo???

It should work just fine, its not exactly sure for the newest demo, but its just a 135 by ten read end OS, been able to run QR's on them in the past.

Personally I would rather see ou get tthe transition hub, specially seeing how its a solid QR system, instead of a hollow axle.

Gah Link directly to the hubs not working.....https://www.transitionbikes.com

go to store, look at the hubs

I'm a big fan of shimano's HT2 cranksets and front derailleur (cassettes too...) but their hubs leave something to be desired, both in terms of bearing durability and freehub strength

especially on FR and DH bikes subjected to serious abuse, my previous experience with 2 pairs of XT disc hubs on my DH bikes was that the hubs continually worked loose despite correct tightening with cone spanners and loctite

since then, I have exclusively used Hope's hubs (Bulb and Pro II) without similar issues...

....I would look at running a Hope Pro II in their excellent 135 x 10mm "screw-in bolt" special option, its much stiffer, stronger and tougher than a 10mm quick release axle hub with quick release skewer, and ideal for DH and FR bikes where you don't want a QR flapping about :(

I run this hub on both my Devinci Hectik All-Mtn bike and my Banshee Rampant short travel bike and have not had any issues with the hub on either bike

I have no problems with my QR lever Never comes loose, never catches anything..... But Still, its not a skewer either...... its a solid ten m shaft that takes the place of the entire axle..... Another reason I like the the transition hub...... takes 30 seconds to make it a bolt on hub..... less then ten bucks as well...

Not trying to knock on the hopes, theya re a good hub..... just the transition is good price for a good part

Or you could just get some I9s

i may or may not know someone who has a dh I9 wheelset that is rear 135x10
:spam:
Curious question about the I9's...in the case of a Demo with a 135 offset rear end...... Would they work out by simply redishing? Not sure when it comes to the spokes on those, is there enough spoke length/room for compensation to move the dish?.... something I have been curious about

i actually rode them on a 2005 demo 8 without them being offset, had no issues at all.
Even had them on a 2007 demo 7 for a run or two without issues

Yeah Ive seen people do this before without having any problems.......aside from some possible tire rub...But not sure why anyone would not want to dish the offset into the wheel for a demo, seeing how it makes for a stiffer wheel.....

Me Neither, plus I felt that if i ever got a new frame I could use the wheelset without having issues with having a rear rim dished. good thing cause i destroyed that poor demo frame
