Fuel TV hosted a Jam on January 23rd to "Save The Banks".... For those of you who have been living under a rock, The New York City Department of Transportation has announced that they will be closing down the Brooklyn Banks pretty much immediately. They need the space for storage while restoring the Brooklyn Bridge until 2014.

The Jam took place in a Beautiful day, the weather was perfect for Skate Boarders & Bike riders alike to shred. We did not do a count but the looks of it was over 200 riders enjoying a beautiful riding spot, and enjoying the sport they loved: Skating or Biking (and Razor scooting).

The Turnout was Awesome, too bad such an amazing location has to be closed until 2014... C'mon NYC, give us a break, leave the banks alone!

Yo D-Tuffs! SIck pics! Glad someone was there to document.

Also, I'm not too familiar with the history and status of the banks. Was it something that was officially sanctioned by the city, or the kind of deal they just turned a blind eye to it?

More of a blind eye thing. Best of luck trying to convince the DOT to change their plans. It's a big unused space in manhattan (hard to come by). And if they're working on the bridge they won't want anyone underneath it. Hate to say it, but the banks will be going away for a while. The only comfort is the fact that construction probably won't start on time.

w00dy, you are right, the construction was supposed to begin on on the 14th or so... But no closures as of yet, they are late... so folks should ride at the banks while they still are open to riders.....

here are some of my Fav. from saturday:

Can't believe they will be gone for that long! And f@cking Ty is crazy! The last time I was in NY was right when Dah Shop was opening. My buds and I were riding through that area when some tall black guy was running after us and yelling. I thought we were gonna get our asses kicked. To our relief, it was just Tyrone Williams lol. They were having a small "grand opening" gig that day and he was trying to tell us about it, which actually turned out to be pretty dope. Aitken, DeLarosa (sp?), and Morales were all there among other pros. Cool shop and good people for sure.

Okay, story time is over haha.
