and why didnt they have world champs there??

course was dope! super long for sure! great riding man.
Because while long, it's pretty boring. Heaps of straights running across the side of the hill instead of being steeper/shorter and going down.

But I think mainly, the reason stromlo got the world champs was because they actually bid for it (and have a lot of facilities at their disposal, plus being close to a major city/airport etc). I don't think it was a good choice for a champs track, but neither is this really.

Nice looking video. :thumb: I just ordered the chest mount for my go pro hd!!

Go pro wants to charge about $30 for a handlebar/frame mount. I'm going to try placing one of the helmet mounts onto the top plate of my stem, with the camera looking back toward the rider. Hopefully it will turn out fairly well!

All that and the fact that it's covered in snow in September. It's a great hill though , A WC standard course could be built there but probably never will be.

Jeremy , get off the brakes man !

hmm i guess that explains it. i dont know AU that well since i never been there haha.
Stromlo has had tens of millions of dollars dumped into it after its entire forest coverage got burnt to the ground in 2003. The actual riding facilities there are top-notch as far as the hill will actually accommodate (the XC trails for example are sick, and it has a few other DH trails on the hill as well), and it satisfies all the other UCI requirements for worlds events such as being within a certain distance of an international airport, being able to accommodate X number of people and so forth, which Thredbo doesn't.

Thredbo is a huge hill with a chairlift that by rights could and should have a sick bike park, but due to the fact that the National Parks mobs in Aus are run by mega tightarses, they're only allowed to have one track and it has to satisfy a LOT of environmental criteria such as maximum gradient, drainage, not running through sensitive areas and so forth. The terrain is there but you're not allowed to use it. It's also quite a drive from any airport (think Canberra is the closest one anyway) and I don't know if it'd be able to accommodate enough people to host a world champs event. The track there is fun but as Udi said, also gets boring fairly quickly and isn't really hard enough (even compared to Stromlo) to be considered world-class. No real line choice, nothing very steep, just 6-7 mins of hand-destroying braking bumps and rocks.

Nice vid Jez!

Nice vid!

Would that be Sam Green? Just looks like he's on a Rage and he's the only who has one in southern hemisphere.

Cheers, just reading your blog, did you get your bike fixed after car crash?
I didn't get to do any over Christmas but over the last couple of weeks I've fixed the gearbox and all the tubes are mitered, just waiting till I can get on the mill to machine one last bit for welding. ~ a month away from doing some runs :)

Hell yeh, that track got blown to bits in the 2006 (I think?) national champs, huge pot holes of brake ruts by race day.

Sick vid btw!

super cool vid, Jeremy.
One of the best which didn't come from the manufacturer.
Did You do any special "tricks" to mount the cam on the chest mount? It's veeeeeery stable.

Cheers mate, I mounted it the same way General Lee does (Shown in another GoPro thread). I also made sure the straps and bolts were super tight. I think a big thing as well is the rendering settings used (in Sony Vegas). If you want those details let me know....
