Just booked my tickets...going to Ireland for St. Patties day and then few days later I'm going to Hong Kong for the Rugby Sevens tournament. Basically I'm planning on being drunk/hung over for two weeks straight.

I've watched Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and the Three Sheets episodes for both places. But the one thing they don't talk about is how to increase your tolerance fast. I'm Chinese and about two beers is enough to get me buzzing. HELP QUICK!

They'll love you in the right bars, and will buy you drinks as a result.

Learn to vomit in a controlled and discreet manner.

Eat while you drink.

Stick to the low-po stuff. So basically drink only Guiness.

Stage 2 - 6 beers - Buzzed.
Stage 3 - 8-10 Beers - Can't feel my body/Life of the party.
Stage 4 - 10+ Beers -Puking followed by sleep.

Hong Kong is probably one of my top three favorite places on earth. Three Sheets and No Reservations have now taken the place of my Lonely Planet books when I travel.

Drink regularly...like everyday. Quantity is less important than frequency, though you should plan to increase quantity as time goes on.

I am of no help...for whatever reason (considering I'm of Mormon stock), I metabolize alcohol well these days...and I also suck at getting a hangover. I think I may have to thank five years of solid drinking in excess.

edit: I lied. Caffeine in large quantities might help you, but be sure to balance with h2o and avoid sugary energy drinks to avoid a nasty crash.

Youth and practice. I used to drink a 12 pack before going to the bars to save money. Never, ever felt hungover. I'd wake up drunk, sometimes a bit shaky, would rarely remember the night before but never felt hungover. Now I feel like **** if I drink more than 4.

I've had a few long vacations where I have regressed to my old habits and it comes back quickly so practice may have more to do with it than age.

The best you can hope for with this agenda is to minimize the damage.

BEFORE you drink, you must hydrate with electrolytes. Quite by accident, I found out that several glasses of water with Elete water supplement will prevent a hangover. My first Interbike, my buddies took me out with the intention of getting me trashed. I'd had the Elete water during the day because they [the Elete people] were giving it out and I knew I needed to hydrate. After a night of Red Bull and Vodka, I woke up still drunk at 7am, raring to go. The room was still spinning a bit (and would for the next couple hours), but I was never sick and never had a headache. It was amazing.

Elete water. Available online or at a good bike shop. Prevents muscle cramps and hangovers. :thumb:

Don't substitute liquor if youll be drinking beer because, for me at least, the tolerance is seperate. I drank a lot of liquor over the summer and not a lot of beer and now I can finish a fifth of good 70 proof rum and feel the same as I do off of 8-9 beers (sh!tfaced but not throwing up) also drinking energy drinks keeps you upright but when you crash, you crash hard.

And I agree 1000% about the b-complex vitamins. Take 2 before you go out and 2 when you wake up.

I've had a few beers in my day. I'd recommend pacing yourself. If you slam your drinks, you're going to be screwed and there is no way to prevent that no matter how much tolerance you might think you have. Keep it to around a beer an hour and drink a full glass of water every two drinks. You'll be pissing all day, but you'll feel fine in the morning. Keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water and you'll be fine.

It takes a long time to build up tolerance. Two months is not enough time.

Yup! I ride for them and LOVE their stuff, there's a link in my signature to their site. LUNA Moons also make a great addition to the electrolyte pool :)

take some ibupofren before you go to bed or pass out. Drink a beer in the morning to keep it going no matter how hard it is. Once you get past the first one you will be fine again but keep drinking all day. Practice this every weekend until you leave.
