A friend has offered me a new vivid shock, just wondering if they ironed out the problems they had when they first came out with seals blowing and shafts unscrewing?

Only two people that i knew that had the shafts unscrew had them fixed and taken care of immediately, no problems since. :thumb:

yep. have the vivid 5.1 and zero issues. Also read up about things coming undone, but it appears those issues have been successfully dealt with.
Brilliant shock.

Went though two of them last year, one the LSR went and it topped out and the other had the shaft unscrew. Both 09 models, both times SRAM replaced them no problem. Make sure you buy new and can get the warranty.

I had mine crap out pretty quick after getting it. it was leaking out of both rebound knobs and then the shaft came loose. The second one had a clunk at the beginning of the stroke.

My dad had one and it leaked out of the rebound knob too but he wasn't the original owner so he got stuck with it.

i hear they are good but ill stick with ELKA's since they aren't too much more expensive and they come custom tuned.

I have seen a few crap the bed in person but Sram's CS is top notch if it does happen.

Either way, buy a CCDB or Avy:thumb:

Agreed! If there is a problem, and you are the origional owner, SRAM will be there for you. The Vivid is an awesome shock for the money and the warranty is exceptional.
You don't even have to be the original owner. Ive bought used Rock Shox products before and they replaced everything for free without any question. I Love Sram for this.:)

bit of a thread resurrection, but anyone receive a vivid R2C back from a service, but a knocking noise occurs when upping the compression damping? Only happens from about 3 clicks in, roughly mid way to full.

I initially thought it was the bolting that was loose, but it's new bushings and spacers. The shock was a spare, serviced unit that was replacing my vivid 5.1 that lost it's rebound mojo and went in for a service today.

It's going back for some rework no doubt, but i'm curious to know of any similar experiences from fellow monkeys. Thx

My R2C has been great on my 6" bike, but a friend got one and it blew a seal on the 1st ride.

I like the shock and the price is reasonable... might get one for the DH bike too.

Every single Vivid coil in town has been sent back for warranty this summer. There seems to be something seriously wrong with them. They've all been on Demos and Nukeproofs if that makes a difference.

On the other hand the Vivid Airs have been without fault, go figure.

I had this knocking noise too on mine but since I rarely used full compression it didn't bother me till I sold it.

Otherwise it was reliable. Rode it fow about two seasons without a service.

I had a knocking at the very top of the stroke of mine. The body of the shock also cracked. Sell it and get something that's not ****.

samnation: stainless hardware?

I have only ever used Vivids on my DH bike: first the 5.1 which gave me 3 years of flawless service till this past weekend when I confirmed that the rebound circuit is need of some TLC. This R2C however, has only been giving me issues: first the oil seal was messed after a few rides, and now it comes straight out of a service into a knocking noise.

But good to hear that everyone's that had a knocking noise, could still ride. I'll dial out the knock until the 5.1 is back from it's service, and then send the R2C away. Such a pity though.

I have 3 days of DH on my 2012 Vivid R2C, and its making the knocking noise. It's right as the shock begins to rebound. Sounds like its common, and it doesn't seem to affect the performance, but has anyone figured out what causes it?
