wUrdFor once a Dh race that wasn't just a sprint.
Not all downhill races are a sprint. If you can sprint in our race you would win $1,500.00 this year. Profro (and others) have told me how good Windrock is. Only 4 racers broke 8 minutes at our race last year.
We would like to see Profro race Whiteface again.

Well the 5k is certainly the exception for american DH races. But 8 minutes isn't exactly a sprint, but it's still not exactly an "endurance" race, but somewhere inbetween. My point is, there are LOTS of DH trails that are 10-15+ minutes at WC pro times, and races shoul be held on them. Or at least the longest trails possible. I do like that Whiteface race though. I hope I can make it out there sometime to give it a shot.

DH races over 5 minutes are stupider then a screen door on a battleship.

What's next? A DH stage race one month long through the high elevations of northern Jersey?

really Neal? could you explain why a DH race in excess of 5 minutes is no good? In my experience Whiteface had a decent amount of flow especially towards the mid and bottom...

wouldn't a screen door on a battleship allow you to enjoy the nice ocean breeze? i kid.

Where are the 15minute+ trails?

^^^Although a ten minute race down a trail with some flow would be fun. Are you listening Iceface???
The whiteface trail has tons of flow, especially right down the middle. If they tightened up the top and sections of the bottom, ten minutes would be no problem. As it is, you cover about a mile at high-speed before entering any woods. That middle section is one of my favorites, then I think you re-enter another high speed section. If it were in the woods the whole way down, you'd be at 10 minutes easily.

My opinion of the 5K may be biased because I rode it with four broken ribs and a recently dislocated thumb. What I remember most was a lot of upper erosion exposing terrain elements that disrupted flow.

And after 5 minutes of anything I jones for a smoke and a beer! i kid.

I can think of at least 10-12, 10+ minute shuttle trails in central/socal, and most of those are 15+ minutes (unless you ride at the HIGHEST of levels and are in insane shape), and a few 20 minute+ trails. The 20 minute+ trails are probably better ridden on a burly 6in bike, they're pretty pedal-y. But fun to do non-stop runs!

None of the shuttle trails in SB are under 10 minutes. One of them might be cutting it close if you're WC level. I on the other hand am NOWHERE near that time, ha ha. But I'm pretty terrible at flat, rocky trails.

And of course these trails are pretty flat (well, VERY flat in some cases). They have to be if you're only dropping 2500 feet in 10-15 minutes. And truth be told some of them aren't THAT fun; they're not that fast, and the struggle becomes more endurance and strength than technical riding skill.

Heads up, the Blue Mountain Fat Tire Festival & Firecracker DH is being moved to July 24/25. Thanks to whoever is managing the thread. We'll be closed that weekend for the holiday and I'll be at Platty for the GES!

Stay tuned for the festival. For those who are familiar with the old Pedro's Fest it will be a similar event but a little more on the Gravity side featuring the " Firecracker DH, Big Air Lake Jump, Live music, etc. We'll keep the DS race that weekend at right now looks like the DS race will be under the lights !!

Doesn't that include 2 days of lift tickets and a 3rd if you qualify? That's not that bad. Unless you have a season pass I guess.

I think it was about $70 last year for Amateur... However it does look like they are adding Thursday to the event, it was only Friday-Sunday past years right?

Holy smokes. Can't believe these two places can't get on the same page with races. Can someone explain to me the benefit that Pats' realizes by scheduling it the same weekend every year when it's in direct conflict with a race at a mtn that's 30min away, has a world class park, and is hosting an event thats part of one of the biggest gravity series in N America? I mean, I'm as big a fan of reliable scheduling as anyone, but when it reliably conflicts with a much more popular park/event a half hour away, what's the point?

I really don't think Pats Peak is that worried about it -the DH race seems to be more of an added attraction to the existing endurance events, the 12 and 24 hour races, which seem to be the main focus of the Pats Peak Weekend.

I loved the Pats Peak race last year and will be sure to make it back this year. It was a great course and even better people there. Out of the 6 or so races I did last year this was my favorite.

There is a contradiction on the website;

‘Intro & Fees’ says…Race fee includes complimentary lift access for Thur. – Sat.

‘Rules & Regs’ says…. Complimentary lift tickets for Fri. & Sat.

If anyone knows a Diablo staff member you may want to point this out since it could create some confusion and unnecessary communiqués.

Does not sound like a Super D race to me. Super D should push 10+ minutes and have more like 30% uphill/flat. You have a big mountain there, use it up. Your DH race is longer than your Super D race. Make it worth while!!

The Super D just before the 5 K DH will be a much longer course on 9-11-2-10.
For this race we want to time it ourselves and not buy 6 miles of caution tape. This way the registration won't be that much more than just a lift ticket.
We also have a huge event that weekend, and many will just have trail bikes with them. Everything form the summit really requires a big bike. This will be a very fun course and the super d course on 9-11 will be even better.

So if a buddy and I are thinking doing a cross country road trip for about 3 weeks, and spending the first week or so in CO, and the rest on the east coast, what time between end of june and middle of September would be the best do you think? I've ridden diablo and windrock before, so I'd like to hit up everywhere else. How many of these places run lifts during the week?

Edit:

At the risk of regretting this, we're looking for the craziest **** there is. Torture trails. Stuff like Mt. Snow's yardsale.

Also, fast lifts are preferred. We usually try to do about 15+ runs a day if possible.

recommend July 31st to August 22nd; gets you a mix of sugarbush, killington and platty races with a free weekend in between to check out highland. That would be the clear choice for me - if you can take that much time.

That's just how they feel. Pat's Peak has this weekend set specifically for the race. They have the summer scheduled long in advance for weddings almost every weekend. I hear ya John, it sucks for me as Highland is one of my sponsors and I built the course at Pat's. :(

I would skip Killington unless you've ridden there previously. There are plenty of great riding spots still open that are more active in the scene. We don't know what the trail is like, and I can say from experience that the trails available there for the most part aren't that crazy fun.
Bromont and whiteface are both open during the week at that time, and are both not too far from pkill or killington or anywhere else. Highland, and plattekill are not. I would try to get a mid-summer trip planned where you can spend a day or two at highland and plattekill on either weekend, then get diablo, whiteface, bromont, and if time is there, jiminy or attitash where possible.

that double-sucks. Which will you do, or is that not publicly answerable? I might check out the pat's peak race, since it sounds pretty cool and the trails get clapped out at highland around races.
