The Chile urban race is about to get the season underway for a lot of riders. UCI Cat 1, so points are up for grabs. Filip Polc, Andrew Neethling, Andreu Lacondeguey and a bunch of others are in route or already on the ground.

Look for photos starting sometime tomorrow afternoon after a 13.5 hour flight. Bring on the 40c+ and beaches!

UPDATE: Race report and more photos here:

Mini update with last year's video recap here:
http://www.transcendmagazine.com/archives/2010/02/vca-2010---chil.html

Most riders are just showing up today. Walked the track yesterday with Needles, will have a small video of him talking about it shortly. The course workers are rolling in any minute now to start really getting construction underway.

There's nothing really to take pictures of yet, besides touristy stuff.

Valpo, from almost all the way up top.

The difference is the amount of points, and how deep they go.

Rode some crazy DH trail through a favella today up above the city with needles and a local. EPIC helmet cam footage to put up tonight!

The course obstacles are almost all complete at this point. Some of them are using a monumental amount of materials to build. USually it's just wood...this year they brought in a welder.

Wall ride from behind...

The Front

Yes, this is a massive blind jump over a wall...

that wall ride confuses me. . . you go from the high level to the lower level?

why wouldnt they just run the course 20 meters further down the road and build a level and easier to build "wall ride"

Er, why would they, when they could build a more interesting/challenging feature like this instead? Your question seems a bit backwards.

Can anyone enter this event, or is it invitation only like Lisboa etc?
Invite only for foreigners, south americans must qualify at other events and then be invited as well.

And yes, the wall ride goes down one level. Why would you make it boring and easy? There is also an option line that flies diagonally OVER that retaining wall about 30 ft up the switchback.

More photos to come this morning, and then real riding bike photos this afternoon as riders get to test a few sections for the first time. The race takes place tomorrow afternoon!

Mini-course preview uploading to Vital right now, ****ty intertubes are running me at 18kb/second so uploadz are slow. Squishing a video extra hard so its not 100Mb so don't complain on video quality :)

Hi! I'm From Chile!

I'm glad to see that foreigners recognize our Mtb racing events.

Downhill racing has been growing a lot the last years in Chile and having people from other countries is a great experience and makes the sport to grow even more.

For the ones that couldn't come this Year, DONT miss it the next one... chile is a very cheap country, you can find shelter and food for a small ammount of money.

And, after the races you'll find the best parties EVER. lol... lots of drinks cheap also.. i mean here you pay 3 dollars for a SIX PACK of beers..

Visit Chile, you'll enjoy it.

Cheers
