i'll be visiting family in oxnard next week but I'll have plenty of free time. I need suggestions on things to do... mexican food, hiking, drinking, reefer, bitches, beaches, outdoorsy, or just plain awesomeness.

howabout bike rentals or trails in Ventura, Santa Barbara, or anywhere else that you know about?

I'll have a car so I'll be able to drive anywhere...

plan my vacation!!!

Any tiny hole in the wall, sketchy looking Mexican food is apt to be awesome. I don't know much about Oxnard, I'm a little south and east of there. There's good riding to be had, I don't know about any place that close that would rent a bike though. Not to say there isn't one.

What sort of riding are you into?

There's some good trails in Ojai about 40 minutes away from Oxnard. You could rent a decent bike at the Ventura Bike Depot on Main Street in Ventura and do a ride there, it's the best/closest place for it.

If you want to kill a day and see some cool stuff I'd recommend going to the Getty Museum. 15 dollar parking but its free to get in.

nice thanks for the suggestions. I'm more into trail/xc riding- nothing super craazy steep. I can't make up my mind if I should bring my own bike- shouldn't have purchased tickets through United as they charge 150 each way for a bike.

I saw the trails in Ojai and am contemplating driving up to San Luis Obispo. Any good sites with trail maps for the Santa Barbara area??

Just smuggle your bike in your luggage. I got a DH bike + tools to Whistler for free that way.

I've heard a place called Super Taco in Oxnard is exceptional (and cheap) from a co-worker.

If you do go to Ojai, go to Red Barn Liquor for tacos/a burrito. They have a deli in the back that is probably my favorite Mexican food I've had. Their tri tip is great.

road with Zark in SB...great trail especially if you like rocks. cant remember the name of it though. Rode a really nice trail smooth & flowy with great vistas in Montana De Oro. I highly recommend that place for a fun day & it is near SLO. Check out the SLO farmers market if it is going. it is sweet. good music, food & produce. Get some tri-tip if you want so good indigenous BBQ.

All those trails burned up... or washed away... or something. :D
Nah, two of 'em got cooked, and one of those is doing pretty good, the rest of 'em are fine. greenchris said XC and not too steep, so it rules the really burned one out:weee:

Romero trail is the trail I took TN and Laura on. Good ride, fireroad climb, good views, wicked rocky singletrack:thumb: There is a ton of trails in the SB area though.
