Colorado Springs, Colo. (February 23, 2010) – USA Cycling announced today the 2010 USA Cycling Professional Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (Pro GRT). In its second year, the five-race series will continue to raise the level of competitive gravity racing across the United States by providing a consistent stage of international-caliber events for elite gravity racers to showcase their downhill skills.

The Pro GRT is a downhill-only series for 2010 and will visit four states from April to September, beginning with a return visit to Port Angeles, Wash. for the Northwest Cup, April 24-25. The series will then make a trip to the opposite coast for the Plattekill Gravity Open in New York’s Roxbury Bike Park, May 22-23. Midway through the season, racers will contest the Northstar-at-Tahoe event in Truckee, Calif., June 26-27. The Pro GRT will then move to Winter Park, Colo. for the Trestle Bike Park (Crankworx Colorado), July 31-August 1, before concluding again with the Whiteface 5th Annual 5K Downhill in Lake Placid, New York, September 11-12.

Each of the five stops will offer series ranking points to top finishers, resulting in overall individual titles for professional men and women. Additionally, competitors will have the opportunity to accumulate international ranking points as two of the five races are inscripted on the UCI calendar. The racers with the most points throughout the five-race series will be recognized as the best gravity athletes competing on U.S. soil.

The 2010 series will also feature an Amateur GRT which, like the Pro GRT, will give Expert-level Category 1 racers the opportunity to compete against each other for an overall series crown.

For more information on the series, please visit USA Cycling’s ProGRT webpage

Glad you guys are diggin the schedule. been a pain in the ass putting it together (some of you probalby already know the drama! ha)... anyway, it's gonna be a sick year!
those of you who had seen an earlier schedule, there are a few of the locations missing in the final schedule. Just so you know, it's not due to lack of interest, but bad timing. having to work around WC schedules, etc it's hard to put a schedule together that makes sense for travel, etc. Expect to see "THOSE" locations on board for 2011!

Thanks for the support guys!

Great Job Dylan !!

We're really excited at Plattekill, This will be our first Pro/Am GRT and our first of many UCI point races. In addition USAC has made it a Junior World Team Qualifier. With the US Open 2 hours and one week away, we do expect to see plenty of westcoasters. We will be open for practice on Friday, Saturday and race on Sunday. We're also planning on being open Monday and Tuesday for freeriding and a VERY special event for aspiring young guns.

Plattekill is located about 1.5 hours from Albany International Airport and 2 hours from JFK

At least he's right about the 1.5 from Albany! I even did it in 1.25 but would not recommend it any more (Route 88 and 30 is loaded with das fuzz nowadays).

Anyway, awesome schedule! See you all at the 2 east coast stops!

Great job putting this together. It's hard enough organizing ourselves (nw cup), much well a handful of venues.

We're psyched to host the opening round. Last year was our best event ever and this one is shaping up to exceed it. Stoked to see all the elite riders planning on hitting the series as well. The calender says the 24th & 25th, but we'll have open practice starting on Thursday the 22nd.

Thanks again JDD.

You do know that it is very easy to cut a ton off google/mapquest's times. They use posted speed limits and do account for normal traffic. Heck I've made it to JFK in under 3 hours from Albany.

Anyway enough thread derailling.

JDD thank you for helping to bring back a national series, including Cat 1 racers is a good move!!!:weee:

Yea I know its easy to cut time off internet directions. That corridor of 87 after it merges with 287 doesn't experience "normal" traffic during peak hours. With all the construction going on at the interchange it backs up QUICK. I've sat there for over an hour before.

check out the growing list of athletes & teams that are going to be particpating this year! While some will be focusing on the entire series, others will be at select events. Regardless, we haven't seen this many international riders attending in YEARS!

Trek World Racing, Santa Cruz Syndcate, Giant & more!

Which two are inscripted and what class?

Not to be a buzzkill, but the crankworx downhill has always been a joke. Supposedly there will be new trails this year, we'll see.

UCI races...

Plattekill - UCI Cat 3

Whiteface (Crankworx Colorado) - UCI Cat 2

I'm trying to work on getting more UCI events on the calendar next year... this year was especially hard w/ the economy (hence the lack of a gated series). it's a work in progress.. :)

i've discusses this issue w/ USAC & Crankworx CO. as you said, they're working on new trails. apparently they're working w/ the MSC boys to help build up their trail network. can't say what the track will be like, but they know they need to step things up, as they have expressed interest in bringing a WC event there. we'll just have to wait & see.

So the May 23rd Platty race is actually a Pro GRT race? I was under the impression that it was just one of the regular Plattekill series races. I guess I'm just confused as to how all these race series' work.
