Good times, the course is fun with all those folks that signed up the wait at the top was understandable, but next time how about a keg or something up there... Just sayin!

Any pics of #55 would be great!

Awesome weather and tons of runs this weekend. Nice to see all the familiar faces and some new ones too. Anyone got a pic of #125? And how about some results...

I think the results might have gotten screwed up a little. Just maybe.
As long as they deduct the 30 seconds they probably added to Joe Haley's time from the ghost rider in front of him, I'lll be good. When they called out top 5 and he wasn't in it, most people I know just walked away knowing the results weren't gonna get sorted til later. Man, he just kills it!:weee:

I'm sure once the Clemson crew sobers up and knocks out a day of classes, they'll hash out the results and post up something.:thumb:

Anyone got a link for results? I waited a little over 2 hours after my race run, then finally had to pack up and head home.

Great race otherwise!
:rant:Yeah I too waited 2 hours in the cold for the reason I spent $136 in Gas $90 for lodging $87 in food and yeah of course the grand discounted registration fee $25. Only to be sent away with the biggest disappointment I think I could ever endure in Downhill racing. After sitting around all that time and watched awards for other classes I find out that I paid to go down a mountain that'd be free any other time. Real good organization on taking my $$. Lots of runaround when it came to actually learning how I competed. When I talked to the smooth talker of the event crew and mentioned my $25 I paid to compete he quickly interrupted me and said it is a fraction of the other races. The travel expenses and missed work I sacrificed to participate in a sport that I love was no fraction of the others. This guy sounded like one of those hokey coupons "5% off orders $1000 or more". Someone said something about the timing method and how unreliable it was: which for all those who don't know was the real mishap not Excel. Excel doesn't crash for one spreadsheet and work for others. The handheld stop watches and cell phone communication or lack of communication on ghost riders was the real BLAME. They were NOT using laser timers. Ok, so there is already a given offset in time due to cell phone lag on when you hear what is spoken, then the obvious issue with multi stop watches. The explanation given was how expensive it is and they wouldn't be able to do registration for $25. That there sounds like a car salesman saying sir I know it only has one wheel but its only $500. Dang it if it don't work then ... well you know FIX IT!. What did all the money go to? $5 per person on insurance. Last time I came there was a big thanks for the donated wood. So whats left? Food? No. I got to watch the event crew chow down plenty while waiting 2 hours for an answer. Dude I drove eight hours on sat nearly falling asleep at the wheel for what? This was too much like the corporate BS I deal with daily. People and scene looked and felt nice, but when it came down to business the smoke and mirrors don't mean squat. I wanted to compete. I just feel like I did great considering I'm a FL boy that barely Tastes the mountain like MAYBE 3 times a year but I'm left in dark cause this was just riding not a race.
Guess it goes without saying I won't be going there again.

Looked to me that they were using Matt Adams Timing software without the Eyes. It is a great and low cost system running it that way. As long as you have the starter stay on top of telling when the rider is to go, its a no problem system as we had to do this the first Paris race due to the eyes not working.

How it works:
Start and finish line start the clock at the same time.
Starter sends rider down every 30sec
Finish line person hits the Enter key when rider finishes and time is marked

Its a Stop Watch system with a Laptop.

The trick is they were running riders every 30secs and it they don't have the Excel sheet setup for the 30secs, Gost Riders, and 2mins between the classes they have screwed themselfs.

b52-nice attitude. You chose to spend the dough to go up. You knew how much it would cost beforehand. It's not like it was nationals or something. Go race xc if that's the way you're going to be. They can't control how many peeps showed up. I think it's awesome that so many people came out and are interested in the sport. I'd like to see how I did as much as anyone, but hey, stuff happens.

This was my second year attending the event and once again I had a blast. Props to the Clemson crew for putting on another great event. Course was in Primooooo conditions.

The only thing i am going to bitch about is the fact that they are not holding another race this year and oh yeah, a shuttle system would be nice, other than that I will be going back next year, if not sooner.

If anyone has pics of 136 please send them over, thks!!!!!

I had a great time, and i enjoyed that course and the conditions were prime. except all the people calling me sandbagger when i only ended up winning third

Like everyone else im just irritated with results being such a hassle and they didn't even call out sport class, well atleast from what i can remember. I think the lack of oxygen from pedaling my brains out might have done some damage:D

Any pictures of #31 would surely appreciated:rofl:

B52Pilot, you sir are under the wrong assumption. Everyone else has known that Clemson is a loosey goosey race put on by a bunch of passionate riders who don't even LIVE in Clemson. They go to school there, dig between classes and ride. They put it on as a fundraiser for their tiny bike club to pay for the lumber and shovels and chainsaw.

It always was and always will be a FUN event by riders, for riders. Perhaps if you had attended it understanding it was not an NHRA sanctioned elite competition, you would have either approached it with a more open mindset and enjoyed your time, or stayed home.

Either way, know that if you want to race in the South, you're gonna have a fun time, hang out with characters and ride some great terrain. But if you expect elite level timing and amenities, you're in the wrong sport.

You can't make your money back on timing systems these days. I've done the math to start my own timing company and buying Ski team level equipment requires an investment that can't be made up in a single season of racing. I've researched multiple times.

You know I do feel like a total jerk ranting about my bad experience cause above all I did get to ride the course which was no doubtably fun. But I don't feel like it should be like that. That when I have been sitting around in the cold for an hour an a half and when I was told 15 min 45 him ago I catch an attitude from some chick sitting at the table with laptops.. its like didn't I pay for this? why is this girl getting an attitude with me saying "You know the results will be posted online.", like I was doing something wrong. I shouldn't have to feel like that. I love downhill because of the rush, the ride, and the environment. Definately not going to quit riding cause of a fall, injury, or bad event. So to jstuhlman.. uh no.
And perhaps I was under the wrong assumption.. but know that I have been to three clemson races and all of them had time delays none as bad as this. Yet races like Paris can have times before the next run. Or Beech even was quick.
What do I know then... I just felt like the BS was way more than bargain'd for when that girl got an attitude and set a bad tone for the group she was apart of and this other guy made me feel like my interests weren't worth a dang, after waiting so long. Like I said, I don't think I should have felt that way. But I'll stop blasting negative propaganda since no one is interested.

Well said Bizutch!

Again, Great job to the Clemson peeps for putting on a good race especially for how many people showed up. That was super cool to see! If anyone has a pic of 135 let me know. Like to get some shots of some people hitting road jump with the Tifosi banner to put on our facebook page also.

We are sorry you didnt have a great expirence. We at CLEMSON, have always put this race on for one thing only, to have a SH*T ton of fun. 162 racers is one hell of an undertaking, and that guy and girl you speak of had been working there butts of all day so that you could have an awesome race and course to ride. Please keep it positive, we werent trying to piss you off trust me. But if you feel so crappy shoot us an email at ride@clemson.edu and we can work something out so you dont feel as bad.

way to represent for the FL riders B52

I'm pissed that I missed this race. I would have gladly driven 10+ hours for this event, who cares about the timing stuff, same thing happened last year and I still drove away with a smile. You're really focused on the wrongs **** here, you paid 25 dollars so you could race your ass down a fun course and be properly supervised in case you wrecked.

To all riders, volunteers and spectators,

We do appologize for the issues that arose after the race. We experienced some technical difficulties with our equipment that caused an enormous delay and major headache for all. I have been on the phone contacting my teammates to make sure that everything is being done to check and recheck what has been recorded so that we produce correct results. Im told the results will be posted shortly. To those who did win, you will be contacted shortly if not already. Thanks for hanging in there and braving the cold with us.

As founder of the club I hate to know that there may be bad vibes towards us after this weekend. I know that myself and the guys who are now in charge have busted their ass to put what we have together AND keep it alive, while getting a degree. It is extremely rewarding hearing the feedback the riders that come out and have a good time on our trails. When there is negative feedback let it be known that we do consider it. Every year we have gotten bigger and every year we try to provide more by listening to our audience. I will personally step in to make sure that this issue never happens again.

Couple of other things:
Weve done the shuttle thing before. It takes the same amount of time to walk up the hill. Also did you see the parking lot? Not happening. ( I tried to have the fireroad bulldozed flat and 15' wide if it lets you know I want a shuttle as much as the next guy)

Age Classes.....next time.

My hat is off to everyone that helped make this race happen and to all that showed up! 162 riders from Maine to Florida showing up to a tiny hill in South Carolina to shred, who woulda thought?

Thanks for coming out! 162 riders!!!! Southeast is blowing up.

Well I for one had an absolutely great time at this event! I have ridden with all the Clemson guys and I really appreciate all of them putting on this event and even sacrificing their riding to make everyone else happy. I met some great people at the race and hung out with a lot of friends which made it a perfect day. Thanks a lot to all those who helped with this event, I had the most fun I could have possibly!

If you have any pictures #65 and of the podiums please let me know at n_gragtmans@hotmail.com . Would love to see some!

Thanks,

We apologize for the delay in results. Corrected race results will be published tonight. There were some errors as of race day due to lack of adequate compensation for ghost riders, etc but everything has been corrected and the true 2nd place pro/expert has been mailed his check and will be congratulated publicly once we release completed times.

B52- Sorry your panties got in a wad. I am sorry you had such a terrible experience at a race supporting some of the best freeride trails in the region that you can ride for free any day of the year. I would be the person you labeled to be the, "smooth talker of the event crew," and I am proud to be that. I am glad you found the time to register an account on ridemonkey and label me so on the internet.

Let's discuss your complaints.

Your under-assumption of costs and expenses is so deplorably incorrect that it vouches for your ignorance as to what a race of this sort costs. To disclose our finances, our main three costs are insurance, renting the forest from the university, and the fee we pay to the university for each rider entry. These costs always absorb half to 70% of what we make every race. GBS Lumber has been so kind to us in the past by donating almost whatever lumber we need, but considering the economy, was unable to this year. We ended up spending almost $700 on lumber and tools at Lowe's (we bought a sawzall, get stoked!) so that we can continue to build and maintain big, safe (tabled), jumps. In fact, I fronted the $700 because the club couldn't cover its own costs this year to put on the race.

The remainder of the funds are allocated towards the purchase of new tools to build dirt jumps and trails with, collegiate racing, and other sorts of events that promote the sport at the university and the region.

We have tried to get a food vender on board, but obviously to no avail. You stated you've been to three previous races, so you should have known that the race is remotely located and you should bring your own food because we have not offered food in the past either. I am sorry that we were unable to provide you with such a basic necessity. The food under the shelter was donated by a generous parent for the race volunteers, which included the students and the emergency medical and rescue staff.

As for everyone else, we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding with the matter. Official, corrected times will be up shortly.

The region has been so supportive of us with their generosity. 162 riders is an awesome statement of what racing in the dirty south is capable of and we are indebted to ensure that we will be able to provide such a race in future years and months. Thank you all for your continued support and dedication.

B52, please don't **** up this thread with your negativity, as it is obviously out of of place. If you have anymore to say, PM me, or email us at ride@clemson.edu

I could've sworn I said I felt like a jerk and that I'll stop blasting negativity. Yet your arrogance is bursting at the seams isn't it?

After all that you said, what remained was "My panties in a wad, label you, I'm ignorant, and a request to stop being negative." And you wanted that to be the last public word?

First, I already said I was going to shut up.
Second, you said I labeled you on the internet. Actually YOU labeled yourself. You put a face to a name. There was a number of guys that I could've been referring to... but YOUR Pride got to you "and I am proud to be that." <-- remember this? You labeled you, otherwise I would've found out your name and blasted it. But that isn't enough.. You then took it personally to the point that you call me ignorant, and there is the obvious derogatory meaning behind "panties in a wad" You were THE GUY and proud to be it. Good job sport.

dang corey...you were at the race and didn't introduce yourself?! it's not like my big butt is hard to miss ;)

screw the results..where are the rest of the pics? :D

anyone who comes to this race with delusions of grandeur regarding prizes and fame obviously didn't read the race flyer. "bar hump competition" kind of puts it right out there that this is less of a race and more of an organized pre-season "how lazy have i been this winter" cob web buster. i use this race to see how out of shape i've gotten over the winter...and this winter has been particularly brutal to my fitness regimen..as evidenced by having to draw the abs on my belly ;)

as for the food: i just discussed this with my wife and i think we might bring a big grill next year and offer a burger/chips/ and drink for about $4 for those who didn't bring food (like me this year...gone all week, came home friday afternoon, unpacked/repacked then left for clemson...and forgot to bring food!...thanks to the GROM folks for letting Noah mooch off of their grub ;) )

anyway, helluva a good time as usual and i'm sorry if i burned anyones eyes with my beautiful display of back hair :D . even if the times got screwed up you guys did an outstanding job at handling the large number of riders on the course ( i don't recall seeing any safety/pile-up issues the whole day from congestion). i expect fast and accurate race results at something like massanutten where i pay a premium price to see how i've improved at real DH...but a race at clemson?!?...c'mon, it's like a college party on dirt! :D :thumb:

Or sack up and move out of FL, I can tell you first hand you will be much happier....

However I will reiterate a few things.

1) Age classes, if the Sport information is lost I declare I podiumed for 35+ sport.
2) Beer at the top, ok well at least maybe some water? I saw people eyeing my not so secretly stashed water bottle in the tree. To the dude that threw it away for me in exchange for the last swig of backwash, just remember antibiotics, can kill lots of things.
3) More pictures of me. Seriously I was freakin color coordinated and everything #55 please!
4) Smooth out the lip of the road gap, or someone teach me how to jump.

Seriously that is a fun place to ride, nicely done.
