Long story short, city dozes a bunch of illeagle spots, the biking community proposes that they allow us land to build on. The city agrees, then the fight begins...
http://nolafayettebikepark.com/default.aspx

Im really shocked that people actually feel this way:

The Parks, Trails & Recreation Commission claims that they must build BMX jumps to address the illegal bike jumps that some individuals have created in the Lafayette Community Park. First, the Commission has taken credit for removing all illegal jumps and remediating the area, thus eliminating the problem. Hopefully, they will keep up the good work on this front. Second, reacting to illegal activity by institutionalizing the activity is illogical and harmful. Any individual who vandalizes public property should be dealt with by law enforcement instead of being rewarded with city funded BMX jumps.

I thought this was going to be another thread about fixies.

This sucks, though. Good luck with the fight. I'm the eternally optimistic type that believes that the city will understand, and help, if presented the correct the way.

Why is this surprising? This nation is overrun by fearful, boring, paranoid and reactionary people who don't know how to mind their ow business.

I'd start building elsewhere.

another great thing the opposition said was that the new park will look like Iwo Jima in WWII
the irony about city-provided "dirt jump parks" is that they tear down trails built in the woods by riders which integrate really well with natural landscape . . . . then after the uproar, exchange for a field with mounds of dirt that does end up looking like a moonscape because the whole "park" is squeezed in to a small location and riders have to maximize space within the prescribed perimeter. it'll take a while, but eventually grass might grow on the sides of jumps and the place will start to look aesthetically pleasing for non-riders .............

Livin it up in the O.C.
I like this quote:

"The BMX jumps will change the entire area. It will disturb the peace and quiet, hurt plants and animals, and limit the things you can do in the Community Park."

Limit things you can do in the park? Isn't that exactly what THEY are trying to do? Limit the activities... And I'd bet that if they calculated the square footage that all these running "roads" take up in the park it is a lot more than 1.8 acres.

Just generally speaking, I don't trust people who just flat out make things up to support their cause.

So can you hack that site? :D
well, theroretically, yes, if you were to therorectically get their details of their domain, and theoretically sign in, because they obvsss havent made it themselves... its something you log into a website frame site and then just put "lil bit of abusive text here" and a "dash of RED AND BLUE there" ahh finished! v. basic but greath for out racist/semetistic/bmxist( is it even a word) views :)

But what about the poor froggies??? Maybe I don't want to live in Cali anymore.
Nah mang. Cali is cool but we can't take a hit to the NorCol scene just to find out you're helping out the NorCal scene. I mean, think about it. Can you imagine if I was left riding with Nick? Our bag of tricks would include his Show Stoppers and then nothing else.

Wait, anti-bike advocates are always reasonable. Just ask the Side-O Trail Nazi.

Trust me, what I write won't be bike related.

I think my next comment is about the saturation of stores on Mt Diablo Blvd and we need to turn that into a environmental protection zone.

these people who have joined the group on fsacebook are all university aged 20 year olds who have no boyfriends and take out there sexual frustration upon those who they do not konw, i bet a third of them can ride a bike at all... and i think there just all pissy because tehy cant hold a book club meeting without having a cup of coffee to simmer over something that might create 1dB of noise, the clicketty clak of a freewheel.
