So I live on the often wet and nasty east coast and I figured I would build some sort of mud guard to protect the shock from all the crud it collects (not in the cleanest spot on my new frame)
I am working on a mudguard for it that will mount using the shock mounting hardware, where I am stuck thought is the material... What are you all using, I am in need of some type of plastic that is UV resistant and easy to work with. I have thought about maybe cutting up an old moto fender.
Show me what you got...

I was thinking of making a rear mud guard also. Just stuck on what to start with.

Anyone who's been successful at this, Come forth and show your knowledge :)

Especially for a Commencal Supreme or along those lines

Yes, need some advice on this too. I only ride in Cali, but still, with a Dhr my shock gets dirty quite fast.

NOT MINE, but I need one for my dhr too. Might make an attempt soon so Ill be sure to follow up.

^That looks about right. Turner looks money too!

Just found out the big S makes them for enduro's and such, here's one of theirs on another frame:

I used a tube to prevent debris (mainly mud and pine needles) from plugging up my shock linkage. I found that I was losing travel due to the linkage getting packed up. Works perfect.

Carbon fiber, molded to spec ;) If you can track CF down, its a matter of making the mold and then solidifying it with fiberglass resin.

Its easy to do, I just got an old THE fender and cut it to size, heated it to shape it then drilled some holes for zip ties, Job done.

PS that was on my Old DHR, Need to make another one for the Solid as it gets full of crap from the lovely scottish weather:shocked:

Click Image for larger size ;)

I used an old front fender from Specialized

I also run a downtube protector.
Hey Kntr I dont think that low on the downtube is where your going to have issues! that downtube guard is a little short it needs to go to the HT and weld it! :thumb: :D

I dig your set up, definently well thought out! Clean and looks good as always.
Ill be going to Lances this summer to ride, we need to shuttle something.

^Wow, couldn't get more specific than that... That 40 looks massive on there.
Can't quite tell from your pics but is it held on using the same zip tie that the cable uses?

I use a piece of tube on my M6, it works really well for keeping crap off the shock and you can't see it at all. I would like something that goes higher to keep mud off my ass. The redish soil at platty makes it look like you pooped yourself.

Yeah I just used 2 zip ties. The fender has 2 holes on it for mounting and it worked just fine. It was solid on the frame with just 2 zip ties.

Haha yeah for 40 on the frame was kind of funny. But it was a killer bike. Glad the vision of Steve still lives on with new riders on his frames. Enjoy!

A cut Maxxis coozie works nice. Just sear the ends where you cut it and zip or twist tie.

I think the downtube guard is more for rocks than as a mud guard.
