Hey all, I've been away from the dh scene for a couple years and I now have a brand new rig that's beggin' to be ridden. What is a good place for me to "ease" back into riding? I'm fairly new to socal so I would need directions as well...or if there's a group riding somewhere tomorrow, maybe I can tag along? Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm on the other side of Barstow. I know it's kinda out of the way from most places. I was in the SD area this past weekend. I hit Vail Lake on Saturday before the rain came. I liked the one dh run that was there (the one with the two wooden bridges), but I thought the rest was kinda lame for dh. I need to go with a guide next time, hopefully there's more out there. I was gonna hit ATT on Sunday someone told me that people sometimes have problems with the land access out there. A guy at a LBS down there told me about Ted Williams but he said they have a no dig, no ride rule. Next time I will bring the shovel!....Are there any other good spots..even if they're hike-a-bike? I know the slopes at Snow Summit got shut down a while back but is there any other DH in the Big Bear area?

Really? A no dig no ride policy? That is straight up BS. The trails are not on private land (well kinda, but riders who built them don't own the land), go ride them. There are little to no problems with the locals up in the ATT area (As of the last 5 years or so). Just be respectful, don't leave trash and dont be loud, you will be fine. Which shop discouraged you from riding? Good thing they are in the bike business, wouldn't want people riding bikes on trails.

I appreciate you raising the BS flag on the no dig, no ride policy at TW. I will still offer help if it's needed and I'm there. I'm def. gonna hit ATT the next time I'm in the area. That guy at the shop wasn't really discouraging me from riding, he just wasn't encouraging me TO ride. He said that the best spots to ride were those "super secret" riding spots, but he did not offer any up. That's cool though, hopefully I will run into someone on the trails that is more receptive to new riders in the area and I can find out from them.

"no fair, I do all the digging, and those guys just ride"- Every Trailbuilder

I guess I can see how a guy can feel that way. Personally, I really like the idea that I made something people can ride. And if someone else wants to dig too....awesome. Moral of the story....if you feel cheated by people riding what you built without helping, DON'T BUILD. Luckily very few guys are that petty.
