I have been looking for a cheap fork for DH use. I want to use my Turner RFX this summer @ Norhstar. The bike is currently setup in AM trim. The bike is spec'd around a 540mm a-c height so something in the 550 a-c height range should be fine. I have come across a few older 170mm Super T's and 170mm 66 SSV dampened forks. Any thoughts on these forks ? Not sure how a Marzocchi 55 would compare as these can also be found for lower prices. Thanks.

Get the Super T. The "VF" forks, 888 or 66, are crap. They tend to "spike" on repeated fast impacts as the fluid can't flow through the orifice fast enough. The Super T has a much better damping system. Just make sure to change the oil in it every once in a while and it will be butter.

03 super t's were the best year. dual hsv, 32mm, 02 was lighter but a little flexier with 30mm stanchions

How would a Fox 36 or Lyrik compare to the Super T for DH use @ Northstar ? Those forks are out of my "DH budget* but would probably see more use in the long run.

I love my 36 Talas, most anyone you ask will say the same.
The super T probably outperforms it in DH, but for an RFX for overall use I'd want the 36.

For AM use the current crop of 6" forks are great for overall use but for DH I keep thinking i'd have greater margin of use from a bigger frok. I know bigger isn't always better but Northstar is quite unforgiving even if you try to play it safe.

I would take a new Lyrik over the Super T, having owned both. Never thought I'd compare the two forks head to head lol.

But the super t is much better than the SSV or VF marzos.

Are you reffering to the DH Lyrik or the 160mm version ?

08/09 boxxers should be getting pretty cheap. Most you can adjust the travel internally with spacers.

I wish I still had my 2003 Super T. I would go with it for performance and durability. However parts are not avail if you break something. not sure about part availability on your other choices.
