Love my new 40, but I'm just wondering if there's anyway to cure the annowing spring rattle. Once your on the bike, and on the trail its quiet, but when hiking up the hill its audable. It has no bearing on the function of the fork......just annoying. Any quick/easy fix for this????

The spring should have a piece of shrink wrap rubber on it that keeps it from making noise. Make sure it's up near the top of the spring. They usually only include it on the spring that came stock in the fork, so if you've switched it out pull it off the stock spring and put it on the one you replaced it with.

I had that same noise. I took out the spring and rotated the shrink wrap 1/2 turn and it went away. I centered the shrink wrap on the spring.

Slide it to the top and you'll be rocking.... Speaking of springs, does anyone have a Yellow Titanium 40 spring they want to trade or sell??

friggin right. I use the green spring and it does have the shrink wrap. So shrink wrap towards the top.........sounds good.

ok.............so I took the spring out and rotated the shrink wrap close to the top. Fixed that problem but now there's a bunch of spring racket when you compress the fork. I'm assuming that this is due to the spring not being pressed into the seat in the bottom of the fork. I know there is one due to the good pull yopu need to get the spring out of the fork. I tried bunny hopping the bike to get it to seat in.......no dice. Still makes the spring clacking. I'm going for a ride tonight........that should do it

try and rotate the spring - sometimes it will take a few tries before it stops making noise.. then after riding for awhile it will come back and you'll need to do it again.

I picked up some extra shrink wrap and added more to mine.. that seems to be the key

could also be hitting in more than one place. Get some heat shrink wrap from somewhere like sears or radio shack. I did that to mine and it solved the problem.

After adjusting the wrap the first time I noticed it making the noise when compressing. I took the spring out again. This time it wasn't seated at all and just came right out without the need to pull on it. I did rotate several times to see if I could get it to seat. I put it back together it it still made the same sound. It does sound like its comming from the bottom this time so my theory seems correct. I bought the fork after market so I have the 2 other springs with the wrap. If ity does go away after the ride tonight I'll wrap the f^ck out of it.

Do you just dump oil in at the top of the stanction on the spring side??? I can see the spring seat at the bottom and there doesn't appear to be much if any oil down there.

I adjusted the shrink wrap back down some just above the middle of the spring and it appears to have solved the problem

I noticed some of the paint rubbing off my spring so I figured there was too much friction. I didn't add much, but it was enough to keep it quiet and prevent any more paint from rubbing off.

Oh and yeah, I just put a bit in on top of the stanchion on the spring side. It not for damping, just lubrication.
