I have a 160mm travel 08' Turner RFX that i'd like to use a few times this season @ Northstar - no big jumps or hucks just rocks and small drops. I already have a nice coil shock ready for the rear. I was looking @ an older 06' 66 VF 2 & a 09' 55 R . Both have the same size stanchions (35mm) and the enrty level dampers are probably similar. So whats the big difference here, 10mm of travel or am I mssing something , plus some poundage on the 66 ? The 55 would get some AM use that's why I am considering it and didn't know if the 66 was going to outperform it as well. Thanks

The older 66 VF and newer 55 R weigh about the same. The 07 and newer 66s were 180mm of travel. For lift access I would do the 66. The cheaper models feel terrible. Look for a upper end model. They do feel that much better.

What you need is a 55 or 66 ETA. I love mine.

55 or 66 - You said 66 for lift access ? Is the 66 just a stronger chassis or will it eat bumps better ? Thanks.

I'd suggest the 2010 55 RC3.
You've got a fairly top end frame to begin with, why mess it with a sketchy and heavy fork.
Moreover, the 2005 66VF is far too high, be warned.

+1

The new Marzocchi's have many improvements over the old ones. A lot stiffer stanchions and a lot lighter.

The 66 is just more travel, more stable, and therefore better on the DH.

I do have my 07 66 ETA for sale if interested.

They're both pretty much junk. We have seen nothing but problems with most of the available models. ATA is garbage, coil springs are almost completely unavailable, air springs feel overly linear and sticky on top. I have felt RC3 forks that felt pretty plush, but either way I would get a Lyric for your RFX.
