Soooo...this could solve a couple problems in one fell swoop. Wal Mart shoppers becoming fixie riders and eventually killing themselves due to fixie idiocy + fixie riders becoming pork rind eating Wal Mart shoppers, eventually eating and spending themselves to glorious 'merican style deaths resultant from hardened arteries and Slurpee consumption = winwinwin.

Someone asked what a "fixed speed" bike is on the walmart site. Here was one response:

The wheels are linked to a subatomic inertia stimulation substrate, which means the wheels never actually stop turning. It is locked at 11Mph and in order to stop you must dismount and lift the bike off the ground. Remember to wear your helmet

Sounds like some pretty advanced technology for 149.

How long til the first trailer park initiated law suit? "This bike dont stop right...they said it was professionaly assembled too..."
I was thinking more along the lines of, a kid jumps on the bike in the store, sprints to the end of the aisle then stops pedaling to turn. Of course the cranks keep going ejecting the kid otb into the wall of fish tanks.

Wired has a Great Commentary about it

I love the last paragraph , says it all !

We guess this bike could be okay. After all, the fixed-gear bike is so simple and so free of components that it should be cheap and good. Plus, as long as you put it together properly, there is almost nothing to go wrong. On the other hand, every cheap bike I have bought has fallen apart quickly. One thing is for sure: the days of the fixed-gear as hipster accessory are over. Thank God.

What if you like to ride a single speed road bike on 60+ mile rides on average, while eating pork rinds washed down with Coke slurpees?

:D

I might buy one of these just for kicks.
