So, I crash, and Im big (6'8", 257) - Ive got a big head, and a long neck.

Already broke my neck, dont want to do it again.

There are several braces out, Leatt being the most prominenet, but also Alpinestars, and I have heard of others but dont recall the details.

I am a decent rider, pretty agressive, but not a ripper (too much punk-out in my veins!) and recognize the need for this protection, but am concerned about fit.

I have a BIG head, and long neck as mentioned, and want to make sure I get the best fit. So please chime in with 'reviews' of current offerings, and point out anything you think might make one more suitable than another in my case.

It needs to have the right FIT, in a good COLOR, and doesn't need to match my FORK! :weee:

leatt, used it a bunch, its pretty amazing how your head nestles into it, i swear when i fell as i hit my head i was thinking, "wow this is pretty good" 10/10 for me, but in all honesty, ANY neck brace is better than nothing, so get 1 regardless of what it is

at your height and weight a leatt will be good. I'm six four and 245, mine fits, so yours will fit well. I took a monster crash the first time out with it and my neck came through fine.

6'5" tall 240 and I will have a leatt and Rockgardn flak jacket this season.
I too have a really large head. I have an old Oneal I will be wearing until my XXL D3 arrives. Ships April 30. My Oneal is an XXL 64cm but is 7 years old so time to replace.
I will be at Diablo alot if you want to check the stuff out.
Will Have the Flak Jacket Thursday.

I do not believe there are any functional differences between the sport and the club at all, and most people I know (including just about anybody that has to pay even the smallest amount for theirs) runs the club. The only people I know on the Sport got theirs for free.

I HATED using my Leatt when I first got it, and actually only rode with it twice before I shelved it for the rest of last season. It wasn't until I took a riding trip to somewhere really far away with really high-speed riding that I forced myself to wear it everyday and now I don't mind it in any situation. That said I have a very large head and virtually no neck (so why where the Leatt, right?).

From what I've seen, slender and/or taller riders usually get used to the Leatt right away, it's us stockier people where it's sort of a pain to get used to.

Here is what I did.

Omega brace. Love it. Still getting the fit right with the Kali helmet, but works beautifully with the Giro Remedy.

One thing to note. The Omega is much cooler to wear (temperature, not necessarily fashion) than the Leatt.

I e-mailed Alpinestars about using their brace with a mtb helmet. They said the braces do not work with mtb helmets.

Just a little feedback. I was out for my first day today with my new leatt club. I am using a 661 Icon Flight Moto helmet. I have the rear of the brace set for maximum clearance. I found that the brace made it hard to look ahead in berms or simply ahead in general. Again this is just first impressions, but I am a little worried after today.

I have just taken the back of the adjuster set screws and fliped them upside down. this should give me a couple more mm of clearance. I'll let you know how it goes.

so is the consensus that the A*'s is best for use with moto helmets and the Leatt is best for MTB helmets?
No, the Leatt works with both.

Comments above about short guys getting used to it are true. If you are a goon, like Huck, you will forget about it quickly.

I've have the Leatt for a couple seasons. If there is a device to keep you from being paralyzed, you should have some common sense and buy it. Tough to ride your bike when your legs don't work.
