after playing around on a friend's bmx I'd really like to get pegs (or at least one rear peg) on my 24": [start commercial mode] grinding pegs is not only easier than sprocket and pedal grinds, it also opens up a whole new world of possibilities.. And smith grinds are wack! [/end] :weee:

Simple idea, but it seems kinda hard to find a hub that will allow this?
I'm looking for a hub with specs like:
- strong
- 14mm axle, 135mm wide to fit mtb frame
- preferrably able to take a standard 16T freewheel, although if really impossible I might switch to cassette, but it should still be 16T else I have to buy another sprocket as well, and those tree sprockets aren't exactly cheap.
- centered flanges
- disc mount not needed, weight is irrelevant

The only candidate I found so far is the 14mm version of Dmr's Revolver hub. I have the 10mm version right now, so I know it's likely going to be a pretty sturdy hub, just not sure it can take peg abuse? And is there really no other company making someting like this?

I've also been checking out bmx hubs, but afaik they're made for 110mm frame width so I doubt I can get it to fit. And even if I could, the flanges are closer together so I'd end up with a weaker wheel. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You could replace the axle on your current hub and give it a try pretty cheap. A long axle with regular nuts doesn't cost much, if it bends you can just put the old bolt on axle back on and try something else. Besides, how are you going to get 14s into your frame?

interesting, I didn't know it's possible to replace the axles on dmr hubs..

the frame (NSBikes) is actually 14mm, comes standard with 14 to 10 converter/chain tensioner which is what I'm using now

Yeah, a BMX hub definitely wouldn't fit in your frame. However, most BMX hubs have a flange to flange measurement comparable to or larger than most mtb hubs, since they don't have disc mounts or a freehub body. Not sure about how they compare to an SS mtb hub though.

Do you run disc brakes? If so, you may run into some issues if you grind on the left side, i.e. trashed rotors. (not to state the obvious or anything lol). I know that Profile makes some mtb versions of their hubs that you may want to check out, but you'll pay for the quality. Halo has some good offerings too that aren't that expensive.

I assumed they were standard axles? Are they weird?
not sure; they're hollow and threaded on the inside. I cannot find the exact picture as they don't make the model anymore, but the axles look like the ones here

I took a look at the hub on my bike, doesn't really seem possible to open it in some way, at least not without breaking things ;P

no disc brakes, no worries.. the only issue I had with left side grinds so far is thrashing and bending my previous frame's chainstay so bad I couldn't get the wheel in nor out anymore lol.
Neither profile or halo have 14mm hubs; I'm still in doubt whether I souldn't just get a 10mm as that's way easier to find, but then again, I've seen my friend bending his 10mm bmx front hub in no time, so I really doubt a 'standard' not peg oriented rear mtb hub will take the abuse.

thanks for all the info. found another 14/135mm made by eastern:

@demo 9: the rest of my wheel is fine but thanks nonetheless.

I'm probably going to go with the Dmr hub, it's not super expensive and I can keep my current spokes and freewheel
