Anyone out in E-world get ahold of some budget riding shoes?
I have heard great things about 5.10's and all, but $100 !!!! You have to be kidding me. I don't spend that much on shoes i wear every day let alone ones i plan to get real dirty and tare the sh!t out of. I tried some timberland low rise hiking shoes for the past two years but they are destroyed now :(

Marzocchi Bomber shoes are just 5-10s and I've seen deals pop up on those occasionally.

keep an eye on chainlove.com. I picked up my 510s for sixty bucks if i remember correctly. And they've held up over a season and a half of riding. They're dirty as hell, but show no real signs of any wear damage. They're the Rennies from like 08 (mid-cut).

I got my 5.10's from Go-Ride for $90... they have almost all sizes available too.

You can't beat 5.10's unless your riding clips. I even have a pair of their trail shoes - the Savant's. Awesome sticky goo they put on their shoes, keeps you coming back for more!

Stop wasting your money on crap shoes and just buy good ones from the start. Good shoes last a lot longer than 2 years, even if you ride a lot.
I've got Sidis that have seen thousands of miles over 11 years. Still rolling.

5.10 makes a budget model. Also watch Chainlove. I scored my last pair for under $50. They have had the cheaper ones up a lot lately.

Also, personally I have had my 5.10s for 3 years and they are in mint shape. However, I am pretty good about maintaining them and cleaning them regularly. I have heard of others destroying theirs quickly though.

I got my impacts from EMS for like $80...and then picked up some rennies because they were too small from jenson for 70$. Peeps is right, quit having a boring tuna, quit having a boring life. Buy the goods from the start.

Otherwise just pick up some stupid skate shoes from your local hipster joint for 20 bucks.

5.10's are definitely worth all of the hype. I have an older pair you can borrow for a day to get an idea what they are all about. Let me know.

When we did the whole RM thing to bring them back, we got the first several sets of the low tops and a pair of the high tops. I let every person I saw wearing vans or whatever take them for a run at local tracks. None wanted to give them back.

My buddy even bought my high top pair used and unwashed, he loved them so much. I think shops would manage to sell more to trail riders and XC junkies if they kept rentals like a bowling alley does. :p

Oh, forgot my last point. I still wear the very first solid black sample pair ever made for 5.10. They sent them to me to test fit and durability and take pics for the website and I've worn them ever since. Still have a brand new pair in the closet I can't convince myself to strap on since these are still functional.

So you want a budget shoe?

Buy 5.10!

Mine are now 3 years old, a bit worn - but they will have to do until I got some spare cash.

Comparing to other shoes on the market - buying 5.10 is an investment, both in terms of performance and durability.

I mean there is NO competition, they could rise the price to 200$ and still dominate the market. Hell I'd pay 400$ for them If i had to.

I'd probably just quit riding if 5.10 disappeared. Trying to imagine riding without 5.10 is like trying to imagine riding DH with V-brakes - we had to do it because we had no other options, but at least I could never go back!

I was in your position a while ago. I could not fathom spending more than a few bucks on something I was going to thrash anyway. It has all been said, but I went through 5 pairs of skate shoes (at a total cost of ~$200) in 1.5 seasons before getting 5.10 Impact 2 Lows for $89. I still have them, and they are still perfectly fine. I have not been kind to them either. They have seen more abuse than all 5 pairs of the skate shoes put together.

I also bought a pair of 5.10 Impact 2 Mids for $79 a couple of months ago. They are still in the box, but I'll break 'em out this summer. For the price I could not pass them by.

I sometime Dj and dig in skate shoes I get maybe 2-3 months out of a pair and they don't stick to the pedals well.
Go 5.10 I get a new pair every year, now I have 3 pairs. So now when I'm at a muddy race I have a pair for saturday, sunday practice, and race run.

I found that traction with 5.10s was only mildly better than the pair of Etnies I was using before that. Given my experience, I would not be able to justify paying full retail for them. I got great life out of my skate shoes too, several years before it was time to move on.

Another vote for 5.10's.

I have a 3 year old pair that I have worn to death for all sorts of riding. Sole is worn through, but still some stick left. The rest of the shoe is still all stitched together and solid, I could resole it for sheezy!

Grabbed a new pair I use for DH now, but rockin the old dogs until they die.

I've ridden Vans for years, and normally go through a pair a year. I love em, but I'm thinking of trying 5.10"s this year. How do they run size wise? I know with Vans lately I've been having to order one size up.

I would say normal to slightly small. I am sizing up this year to an 11, I normally wear a 10.5 street shoe and an 11 sports (ie running) shoe. I have 10.5 impact2s, and bought/am planning to run size 11 rennies as I got turf toe whenever I put a foot down or clipped a rock. I still wear the 10.5s as street shoes and occasional flat pedalling, as they feel comfortable, but the 11s will be used for DH.

Hope that helps.

5.10s are great, wouldn't use anything else, but I'm surprised at people getting three years of wear out of them. My second pair which I use just now have been going for about a year and have just started to let water in through the sole. They've got enough grip left to use for another few months but my last pair met a similar end with a hole big enough to put my finger through. The upper is fine however, apart from a bit of wear on the lace loops.

You obviously ride in wastelands of acid rain and acrid, deplorable conditions. ;)

The insides dropped outa mine after about 2 years, can't really complain but it's a shame as the soles and uppers were fine. They take absolutly forever to dry! Prefer my Nike 6.0's now.
