I was browsing through the 2010 sunline catalog and noticed they offer wheels now, has anyone had experience with them or know if they are just someone elses wheels that sunline rebranded?

someone I know is testing the chainguide. Supposedly it's spring loaded and moves with the suspension. I haven't taken a look at it yet, but he seems pretty happy with it.

The wheels look pretty legit, 1967gms for the pair I'm guessing they'll be in the 700-900$ range. That chainguide looks pretty promising as well, I for one have been plagued with problems of rotating guides and stripped tabs, if it works as described it will replace my LG1.

They do look pretty promising and the "claimed" weight is low for sure. Just shooting from the hip but i would guess they will be in the $500-600 range. It would be difficult for them to compete with higher end established wheelsets, while they look to be higher quality than a lower end Azonic Outlaw or something. I sent an email to someone today, hopefully I will have some real information on Monday...

there was nothing wrong with their headsets. Only something wrong with the hack installing them.
I did not have any luck with my zerostack headset... The tolerances were too tight, the bearings didn't last very long and the parallel contact made no sense. However, I do give them credit for recognizing there were issues and discontinuing them.

1st guess, WTB.
Lets hope not.

That sounds about right, but their moto wheels are pretty high end if that means anything.

It's just Taiwanese stuff. It's all made in the same half-dozen factories. For that money you can get something much more exciting.

I only dealt with one of those headsets- taking off a friend's fork, and it sucked. Cool idea, I guess, but thier headset just really complicated a typically simple part of the bike to deal with.
My view on that thing is that a hack should have an even easier time working on it- with a hammer.

Just to clarify, the chainguide doesnt move with the suspension. IF the BB is low enough to make the chainguide hit a rock, it will flex out of the way, using a spring to return. it doesnt necessarily move with the motion of the suspension.

The function of the Sunline headsets was just fine if you have even a single neuron firing in your brain. It takes a single whack on the steerer from a rubber mallet to remove it. Most times, King headsets are the same way when that top cap is really tight.

I only ditched mine because it deformed and would slip into a new frame by hand (frame was used so I initially thought it was rounded and just put in a King Steelset).

I just wish Sunline would make product runs longer than 2 years. Why should we be confident in their product if they aren't?

$600 for a wheelset? That's without racer/sponsor discount?

Hello new king of the "what new wheelset should I get?"

For the record, the function of their headsets are fine. But the real issue is after installation, removing the fork from the frame. You should not need a sledgehammer to do that. Other than that and maybe fast wearing grips, I think they're going in the right direction. :thumb:

Exactly. Think of it like the Syncros guide, except the Syncros lower arm is a fixed piece of spring steel. The Sunline Travel Guide's lower arm pivots, with a torsion spring on the pivot to snap it back into place after smacking something. Jason did a good job on that one . . . can't wait for it to be released.

+1. It gave me fits my first install but that was my fault, not the headset's.

This isn't new. Mr Dirt (Bob Barnett) did this way back in like 1997 with the original (but modified) Mr Dirt Chainguides.

Kinda quoting an old post - but thought I'd mention something...

The idea of a chain guide having a rotating lower tensioner definitely isn't a new one - but the way the V1 Travel Guide executes this is. It uses two bushings concealed nicely behind the back plate to allow the lower arm to rotate concentric with the bottom bracket - keeping any gaps from forming between the lower guide roller and bash guard - a tight fit with the bash guard as it moves.

If you've taken a look at one and held it to see how they work it really is a pretty ingenious little design. Props to Sunline!

Bumping an OLD thread.....

Anyone know the ERD of the Sunline DH rim?

Bought one of the cheap wheelsets on Chainlove, and it's time for a new rear rim. Hoping the ERD is a common size to avoid having to buy new spokes.
