Ok so now that I got your attention, I would like to suggest adding some relevant stickys to the DH forum? Tuning/FAQ sticky's for the RCX4, DHX5, Boxxer, Vivid, DH40 would be awesome. Using the Search Function is time consuming, but most of all wading through a bunch of idiots replies who seem to be just trying to up their post counts, in order to get to a few gems of info, is frusturating to say the least.

I found always the best way to get answers,is to call the vendor for tech support and talk to someone who actualy knows wat they are talking about.

while I may agree with your query, have you tried selecting the "display as posts" function instead of "display threads"? I've found that to be useful in being able to sort through the rubbish.

Why do something like this??? It makes to much sense!!! Let's put a sticky up for the tuning of a bike that less than 1% of the people have.

- might I add going to their website too, most usually have some good info about their products, or google.

quoted for truth. this should always be the first place to go.....unless after hours, on a weekend, during holidays, or you are looking to get ripped on a bit by your fellow mates or for a good laugh.

Do you know any willing to put in the time and effort, who has the knowledge and insight to make and maintain a thread like that?

You let me know, start the first post, and if it is half as useful, I will sticky it. deal?

Also: proper spelling and grammar, as mandown said. Make it friggin' readable will you?

perhaps if the a-holes posting turds here would use useful thread titles like "how to tune my RockShox Vivid" and spelled everything fully and correctly (not "zoke" or Rock Shocks") and mind the 3-letter minimum required for searches to work then things would be a bit better.

of course, i've found that it is just easier to ask the question i have, and let someone else post up a wise-ass reply of "use the search function" with a link to the thread i want :D

You obviously never owned a marzocchi product, didn't you? ;)

Also I always thought you go to the forums when you get no info from the manufacturer. Didn't all people do that?

Wow that would take up half if not most of the first page full of sticky's!

How about one sticky Tech data base [name title could be anything just a suggestion as long as it makes sense so people don't be lazy, inside links to threads for each listed component you suggested, one place to go, titles could be suspension, bikes wheels etc under that links to specific's.

Yes it's a bit of work but not too hard, the amount of time spent here by some would be at least a creative and positive contribution rather than just shooting people from the hip.

Just another progression to a well rounded site, I think the concept you raise is a good idea :thumb:

How did I get draged into this?

The reality is that people want very different things from their suspension and the knowledge and technical ability of users here (or any large audience) is so variable, that writing an article about even a single suspension item that cover all the parts, definitions, dissasembly, assembly, tools, consumables, tuning variables from oil volumes, viscosities, shim mods, port mods, part swaps, etc, etc would take a pretty large effort... and IMO there are not enough appreciative posters here to make me want to undertake this sort of thing.

Better yet Nick, You, Steve and I (and any else who would want to positively contribute) take a weekend at whistler with the express intent of doing some suspension experimentation/tuning/swaping and keeping some sort of record of the results...

Assuming I'm the Steve you're referring to - already doing it :) Did a few runs of A-line and Samurai Pizza Cat today to get a base setting for my new bike actually. I'll probably put up a 2010 Boxxer tuning thread in a month or so. One for the RC4 as well if I get round to it, maybe even the CCDB if I ever get around to getting mine rebuilt.

Gimme a yell for sure if you're coming up to Whistler though, always up for riding and/or beer.

Wouldn't it be better to get someone who can ride, rather than a total hucker squid to do the testing?

Come on now...why all the hate?
You mean in your reality marzocchi has ban all eager and willing to provide service manuals? Because the only place I can see handing them out is the uk distri and even he claims they are like the italian mafia. No real service support from marz only - go and pay for a service at our overpriced distributor.

You guys are pretty quick to volunteer/suggest others to work on these kinds of threads.

Those threads are stuck because they're probably the most useful, comprehensive threads ever on their particular subject. That's the only reason.

If anyone writes threads on any biking subject at all that approach that level of usefulness or comprehensiveness, I will sticky them immediately. If you guys write enough, I will create a new forum to house them in. Or a new prefix that you can search by. I would love to make as much information available as possible.

So go on... get writing.

I'll agree, I don't understand the reason for the preferential treatment towards some products compared to others in regard to sticky'd threads. There have been plenty of valuable and resourceful threads over the years that have had the same if not more merit and deserved-ness of being a sticky. Would I like it if there was a more streamlined approach of researching product setup advice and tips? Abso-freaking-lutely!, but I'm not really how one could build a user friendly structured web database/forum that would be optimized as such. Maybe I need to start using the thread subscription feature, but I'm sure there is a better way of building a UI. (BTW, in no way do I expect RM to build their own UI)

As for the forum turning into turd. Welcome to the internet v2010. Where the DH forum is turning into a place of cheap laughs and "cool" guy 4chan'ism. It's too bad, and I wish that the mods would try to actively clean up the behavior via just deleting posts and warning members to keep the nonsensical banter in the Lounge or elsewhere like on some of the non-biking forums I frequent. It's a shame, but if this is how the owners of RM want to run their site, that is well within their right. Regarding myself, if it continues then I'll probably start thinking about making the journey back over to MTBR which believe it or not seems to be much more a valuable resource of information nowadays.

While I'm guilty of excess stupidity here, I have toyed with the idea of going back to MTBR....I find that info is much easier to get over there, and if you disagree with anybody here, particularly anybody who likes e13 or DW, you get hammered...it's boring and lame and there are other bikes in the universe besides the ones that constantly get brought up...etc etc.

back to the point, RM is way more of a "group" or "family" even if that means tuning info is harder to find or I have to put up with half the koolaid drinkers all the time....so I won't end up leaving.

quoted for truth. Too often people post without thinking about how future generations will attempt to mine the knowledge gold with search functions.

it's particularly bad with the fvkken kiwis and aussies who can't bring themselves to spell out the full name of a product. :D

i grew up down unda so i can say this with authority

Sandwich: thread looks good.
Agreed!

Someone add rep to Sandwich for me, I "must spread more rep" first.

Sandwich, thanks for taking the time to get that going. That adds so much more value to the forum in general and certainly more value than others just bitching about something they want. Way to take the bull by the horns. :thumb:

Hey dudes, thanks for the comments and suggestions. I will update as possible/necessary/desired.

As for the shop, that is more purely technical help and this forum is more hype and news...but there are some great discussions in both, and I have no problem linking to either. In fact, I'd like to link to the pinkbike thread on DHX tuning, but I'm not available to search at the moment.

For one, it will help to keep things concise...as I searched for a boxxer tuning thread, I passed by 4 different boxxer topics...would be better to have one thread with all info in it.
