Man that can be a really dangerous one, hopefully he'll be ok and maybe one day return to racing. Thats what Kovarik did as well right?

I hate to see promising riders hurt all the time, Matti Lehikoinen is another example. When healthy he's a world beater; but with the knackered knee and now this I hope to see him back in contention.

That's terrible for Fabien. He's one of my favorite riders to watch and hear interviewed.

(ATVs suck.)
haha.

VTT stands for Vélo Tout Terrain in France (mountain bike). In Quebec it stands for Véhicule Tout Terrain (ATV). Oftentimes leads to confusion over here (french Canada). Anyways, he came off his bike in a bike park (Sospel - around Nice I imagine) while training for the first round of the WC.

Man, I hope he's ok, and that he gets back better soon. I'm going to miss his presence on the race course, and second the suggestion that Freecaster scoop him up for broadcasting duties.

Prompt rétablissement Fabien, on attends tous ton retour en force...

Ha, I just translated it in Chrome before I read it, probably should of read it seen as I speak decent French! Strange that Google use a Quebecois French for translation. VTT is always velo tout terrain in my books. Fabien will be back strong for worlds.

Such a shame, Fabian is a ripper and a great ambassador for the sport, hopefully he can fit in some commentary around his rehab

Such a bummer. He's a great racer to watch and one of the best ambassadors for the sport. Thoughts go out to him for a speedy recovery. This really sucks!!!!!

Im over here now
ATV ????!!!!!

Why always moto crashes?

Kovarik some years ago, Minnaar, Hill, and now Barel.
bicycle. not ATV

According to Nice Matin, Fabien Barel it is put on a wicked bike park of Sospel. The pilot was conducting a Mondraker workout, for the launch of the World Cup downhill when he lost control of his ATV. Supported by the rescue, Fabien was carried out emergency IM2S of Monaco, the Institute of Sports Medicine. The first medical record mentions a head injury and a fractured femur. The double world champion wanted to reassure his relatives and supporters waving his hand before taking off for Monaco.

The 2010 season looks bad, Fabien can already forget the first round in one week in Maribor even where he had made a triumphant return after injuring his knee in early 2009.

Velo Verde wish him a speedy recovery.

Yeah I think he can forget about the whole WC. Fractured femur is not going to heal in a month or even 3. I know I've had one for the last 5 weeks

Gutted for him, he just can't catch a break of late. However, I have to admit to laughing at the translation of 'conducting a Mondraker workout'!

I am really sorry for Fabien.
My buddy broke his femur and he got one or two plates and several bolts. I hope Fabien's fracture is not that bad :|

Naturally, we dont know the circumstances of the crash yet.

But those riders should go easy near the WC kickoff.

Look at Minnaar in Port Angeles.

you can get seriously hurt taking it easy too (ex. Matti and his broken back in 2007 off season, Josh B's collarbone is Whistler, etc)...

let's not point finger or second guess someone training for their profession. It is safe to say they know what they are doing, and do it for a reason... it's a dangerous sport and it is all calculated risk.

I must admit I'm gutted.

Definitely one of the potential winners of the overall World Cup.

I just sent an email to Freecaster saying the should pay Barel to commentate and put a $ on the download fee to cover it. I'd pay it anyway. The guy transforms the coverage when he's behind the mic.

I was just telling some of my friends that Barel could make a legit run at the WC overall this season as well as worlds, of course. What a pisser!

I agree about getting him on the Freecaster team...and quickly. I'll help pay his wages like most of us would if it were another dollar to make it so. Not the easiest person follow, but it's worth the effort since he's insanely knowledgeable of the past, present and future. Incredible insight and the perfect balance to Warner's style.

Thanks to everyone for the support, I will let Fab know :).

He got surgery same day of crash and got a pin on the Femur. He has a bit displaced fracture, that is why he needed the surgery. He's ok about concussion, just needs few days of resting.

Doctor says 3months off, but i think everyone here knows Fab, so he should be on the bike earlier than that!!

Cheers!

well, given his record last year, he should be back on the bike in 3-4 weeks, and winning/top five in the same amount of time :D

Casar, it doesn't look like "a bit displaced fracture" ;)
I hope it's not lost season for Fabien, though.
