Will be in New York til 19th may hanging around and will be looking for downhill gear - neck braces, riding kit, casual wear, shoes, workshop gear etc if there are any. Please help me out. I've been looking at some shops included in the NYC cycling map but find most city, road and xc bikes/ gear.

I mainly will be on manhattan but no problem taking the subway, train or bus elsewhere round the city.

Thanks!

Markus

Endless trail bikeworx in dobsferry has a ton of DH stuff in stock
wouldnt exactly say thats in the city, but if you have a car its not bad of a drive.

Racer's Edge in Brooklyn also has stuff.

there's a shop by the Holland Tunnel...dont know the name. thought i saw a Leatt brace in there looking in the window. had a few a BMX bikes there, so i dunno.

if you want to venture in to NJ, Diamond Cycle's in Montclair has some selection. mechanic there is a DH'r and pretty knowledgeable.

Racers Edge closed down last year.
Gerald the former owner works at Roys Bikes at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.
Yo wont find any shops in NYC with leatt braces in stock.

Sids bikes is probably the best for DH stuff, they are a little pricey IMO.

Diamond Cycle in Montclair is only a 30-40(traffic dependent) minute run on the 66bus from port authority. (get off at the Park Street YMCA, or Bloomfield Ave, and head east down Bloomfield Ave, it's only a few blocks down on the left hand side of the street) It's a top-notch shop and they'll do whatever they can to make sure you're taken care of.

Talk to Lou or Jim (the weekday mechanics) and tell 'em Kurt sent you.

I'd say try to come out to Montclair in the morning on a weekday, and try to get back in before rush hour. If you can catch the 2pm bus back in you won't have to sit in too much traffic.
