makulu armada:D

how did you guys get the custom color?
generally patients and a little extra $. All frames are raw till leaving the factory so they will paint them any colour from the range if you ask nicely and depending on the colour you might have to wait a bit longer.

yeah the noise goes away a little. Mine sounded like an old bed when pedalling at first but it goes away after about 8-10 hours riding and then just makes a nice wooshing sound as the oil flows. I found the best solution to get rid of the noise was to go faster as it only happened to me at low speed.

Question to Izimu rider...What spring weights are you guys running? I'm about 165 in riding gear and have a 400lb spring, I'm afraid it might be a bit too stiff. Guess we'll find out this weekend...

you know, you can always measure the sag on your own on a little slope. push the bumper stopper to the top and gently mount your bike to see how much sag you are getting in an active position.
then buy the right spring depending if you have to little or too much sag.
remember you should run no more than 2 turns from loose on your coil. Yes you can turn it more maybe one or two turns to give yourself a bit less sag but it's not ideal.

hope this helps.

Jeez Matt, 165?
Have you eaten since you left Clemson?
How did you get a copy of the Olsen twin diet?
Anyway, it depends on what shock you are running, but a 350 is a safe bet.
I ran a 300 on my DB last year, and it was borderline too soft for me at 175.
If you are on a DHX, I would think a 350 would be the way to go.

Just read a interesting interview with Nathan Rennie in the April ed of Revolution mag [aussie mag] good mag too, up there with DIRT for me I love it no BS mostly DH too..

Anyways lots of clear view from the big guy, always respected him and loved his riding, pity not to see him or the team go well, but some insight into all that, does make me feel a bit off about that side, as hate seeing guys like that go out that way, hopefully he will be back sometime with the support he deserves, not so keen on Morewood anymore after that though.

There are some sick shots and picc's of Morewood builds here just wanna say that too.

Kenda Morewood was not directly the team of Morewood themselves, they only supplied the frames. It was the team of the Gravity Group where both Rennie and Delfs were not so happy with.......

Yeah not saying I don't like Morewood anymore just saying not so keen, def sounded like more to it and always both sides, but Rennie is a straight up talker he didn't hold back, they're were more issues than just the team, if I understood him correctly he was quite specific and clear, he didn't point directly at MW but they're were issues with timing, compounded his injury, setup, suspension issues again more a lack of development time, bikes he covered off quite detailed!

Still love that guy as a rider and sounds like hes back on a good road so wish him all the best and hope he comes back sometime too good a rider too much still to offer, hes got years left. so hope he rips it up again!

As the Australian distributor for morewood and BOS i have to defend them from your comments. I have had insights on the struggle and it definitely isn't good for both Rennie, Morewood and the rest in that regard. Rennie's manager at the time from what i heard was the source of all their troubles. Abusing his position by taking the riders sponsors for idiots and scamming them and leaving nothing to the athletes or mechanics. May it be tld or five 10 or formula and or even morewood.

Quite frankly i'm not sure what good an article like that could do to anyone. Nathan might have needed to vent and i can understand but i wouldn't want to burn my bridges if i were him.
As far as i know Nathan is still riding his world champ makulu with bos front and rear. UNless he sold it but i'm pretty sure i would have heard about it sooner or later.

There are a lot of controversies in the article and a lot can be misread. Nathan's quams with the manager seemed to be the stem of all trouble.
Nathan not being paid etc.. then injuries.. then pressure... it really isn't the best enbvironment to perform. That kind of situation really damages the sponsors who do their best to help their athletes.

Realistically a lot of people got burnt out from it. Nathan the first and think of Kenda, morewood, tld, 510 , formula etc.. because quite frankly it could have gone either way with that team.

It's really sad in my opinion and i wish i had been the team manager then. :D
Guaranteed success.

Question for guys on the Makulu's running a Double Barrel. Ok I weigh a 165lbs and running a 200# spring on the CCDB. Cane creek measured my sag and I wasn't achieving the correct sag, recommended that I go with a lighter spring like a 150#?? I was wow that is really light and if anybody knows where I can get one, please let me know. Also keep in mind I don't have the 2010 tuned but won't make much a difference.

I'm curious with other guys running the same setup and roughly the same weight, are u running into this dilemma, what do u think about this suggestion.

I dont ride a CCDB but I ride with alot of guys that do. As far as I know CC does not even have a steel 200# only ti and that is as low as it goes. I ride the BOS and they have a 187.5# and I have heard they make a 175# but I have not actually seen it. Now the problem is BOS has no presence in the U.S. so you will have to get it from the U.K. or Australia.

Other than BOS I know no one that makes a spring that low in 3.5.

Haha, I definitely still eat but I certainly don't drink as much as I did when I was in school. I've been averaging 60-80 miles a week of XC which really helped me lose a bunch of weight.

I rode a 400lb spring all weekend at Diablo and it was definitely too heavy, I felt like I was only using half my rear travel. Ordering a 350 spring tomorrow...

Hey guys, do any of you know the US price for Kalula, Zuza and Mbuzi?
Frame or complete.
Thanks.
I know www.fanatikbike.com has all of the updated 2010 prices on their website. Also, I don't think Richard distributes their bikes anymore in the US. I hear it's a new guy, and all the prices are much lower than they were last year - which is why I have a Makulu in the mail! I've wanted one for a long time, but up until this season a Makulu was way more expensive w/o shock than anything else was with shock.

Oh wow, thanks for the link. The Zuza is right in my range.

Do these bikes generally hold up pretty well?

I hadnt heard about Morewood until yesterday, and now I really want one. I just want to make sure they are strong and a company with a good rep.

Morewood USA has about a good rep as you can get. I have always been skeptical of online bike dealers. Go-Ride being the exception.

Are you on crack by any chance? It's ok to admit it - we all have our vices.

Edit: And if you ordered the RC4 with your Makulu, good luck with all that.

No, I didn't order the RC4, and no, I'm not on crack. Maybe there's two distributors now?? I just know that when I ordered my frame, I didn't talk to Richard, and the price I was quoted was way lower than what I was quoted a year and a half ago.

http://www.morewoodbikes.com/find-a-dealer/usa.html

Two distributors. Maybe Morewood updated their pricing on their end? I really don't know the whole story, just that it's different than it was in 2009.
