Hey guys I have a Santa Cruz Vp-Free with Shimano Slx cranks on it. So I've been using the cranks on the bike for about a month without a chainguide, and the proper chainline, but once I installed the chainguide my chainline is all messed up as I could not use the two 2.5mm spacers I needed to on the BB. Mostly because the chain guide is slightly thicker than 2.5mm. So my question is, what else can I use as a temporary spacer until my thinner spacers come in? My LBS said they heard a guy who uses to use little strips of metal from soda cans as spacers. Don't know if that will work or not but any other suggestions?

Thanks
Mike

Not sure what else to use for spacers tbh. But I also have a VP Free, and I know you need a crankset with the longer spindle (made for 83mm bb's) if you really want the correct chainline. The SLX cranks don't come in that option.

I've been using the old Saint M800's on my bike, and while the chainline wasn't correct, it still worked with the E-thirteen DRS guide. I only used the M800's cause the 805's weren't out when I bought the bike, and I didn't research any other options.

I actually just ordered a set of the old M805's off ebay for $100 a couple days ago, so I could finally get the proper chainline. The guy still has quite a few of them left too if you're interested.

Yeah I know i'm never going to get a perfect chainline but right now it's really bad and with one more spacer I've run it like that before and it's worked just fine. So really I just need one small spacer.
