The correct dates are July 10-11, August 7-8, September 11-12, Saturday Downhill at Beech Mountain followed by Sunday Dual Slalom at the Lees-McRae Track. Races will be USAC sanctioned. Entry Fee for DH is going to be $40 for Cat1/2/3, $45 for Pro. Slalom entry fee is $30 for Cat1/2/3, Entry fee for pro is $35. The first race will be on the triple crown finals track which is being cleaned up and improved to have it running even better than before. Yes you can just enter one event, or both. There will be a series points for both slalom and DH individually, along with a combined points for riders entering both DH and Slalom.

Anyway to ride either track before the race, say maybe July 5th - the sunday prior?

as of now, both tracks are on private property, however I've passed on the idea of a public day, so I'll keep everyone posted on those details as well

Did the USAC rep get in touch with you? He emailed me offering to make the event the NC State Championships so that it counts to qualify for National Championships.

I'd ask if there was gonna be pro payout but I guess I can't race pro w/o a license.

Anyone know if you can step straight to cat1 or am I gonna have to work my way up to that as well?

If you've got a license # with USAC, you go to the www.usacycling.org and click "Login" in the upper/middle/left. If you've got an account with your USAC# saved, you'll be able to click renew and a few screens in will be a drop down menu listing categories you can renew for. Mine still says Cat1...or Pro. Decisions...decisions.

mueller...you may be able to use collegiate results to upgrade (at least to cat 1 i'd venture to guess, not sure about to pro), i know there was talk of that in the past, but I don't know where it went, that would be a question for the powers that be at USAC. but yes, cash payout for pro, for both dual slalom and downhill. I'm going to see if I can still run an open non-usac class (since i believe massanutten usually kept one at their race) can any one correct me on that?

Sounds good...hopefully I'll be able to step right to cat1 and start from there. Between having an expert license in the past and my collegiate results hopefully I won't have to start at cat2.

Mass has had an open class the last 3 years at least.

please let me know if you guys need any help, especially on the hill. I'd love to get my hands on a shovel and some beech mountain rocks.

Can you really call an Open class at a USAC race "Pro"? I wouldn't think so since there is an official Pro category. I would think you'd just call it Open.

I think the idea is just to give everyone a heads up that open class would be open to all skill levels, thus encouraging less experienced riders to opt for the one-day license instead of just racing open and getting smoked by "pros" without licenses.

I'd support an open class as well.

I think i can make the open work for the DH, but I'm 99% positive that won't be possible for Slalom being at the LMC Campus and getting the school to back that. It's been several months of work just getting a USAC slalom approved at the school

Yah, with me maybe racing 2 or 3 races this year a USAC Lic is out. Don't see myself paying the $150. Open class all the way. I think I will keep the Paris Race all Open like the past few years for all classes. Don't see why to go USAC with the event. They take way to much $$ to do so and our event is about raising $$ to put back into the Park.

I do hope to make a Beech Race this year!!! Good you have that Mt back!!!

Just don't label it "Pro/Open". Trust me on that one. :D

Dogboy, the reason they ran the "Open" class at Massanutten was basicly because George Willetts used to race all the South East stuff. He's old school and always wants to make sure the Southeast comes to his race. So he added Open as a non-points carrying class for all classes to mix it up.

The only thing that sucks about it is when a fully sponsored pro like Yuroshek takes a squat on the class and wins over me and Matt Griffin, stealing our ancient thunder. :D

In motocross, they used to have a class called Schoolboy. Don't what they have now. But it was a cool class where groms from 12-17 could race any CC bike in addition to their AMA class. Young guns would blow away the other groms in 80cc class on bored out screamers, then go head to head with kids on 100cc kit bikes and 125cc. Some just were amped to get more racing in and do more hot laps no matter the competition. Others went toe to toe!

My point being, I think Open at a USAC race defeats the purpose. You should have to race in Cat 1-4, then let everybody in Open go toe to toe from grom to grizzled vet. Would put more money in the promoters pocket and give you two completely different race runs to play with that count for two different sets of bragging rights.

To be clear, I fully support an Open class and I get why some folks would opt for it. I just feel like it should be called "Open" since there is already a Pro class.

I think we should just have an Overall category. :D Am I the only one that doesn't care about how I did in "my class"? Even at Hawksnest I got 6th by category but I immediately looked at the overall and in reality I got 7th because a junior would have placed 2nd in the pro class. Even at dirt bike races, while I am holding a plaque for 2nd in B 30+, I immediately look for the overall results to see where I finished. Like I said, at Hawksnest, we ALL lost to Dan.

But I am super stoked if Beech offers an Open category. I'd like to race without buying a $150 license for 3 races. I just hope enough "pros" sign up for it as well making it competitive.

It sure would be easier to put on a race if it were this way...I feel the same way.

Either way I'm stoked for the triple crown, especially the slalom. Great to have so many events in my stomping grounds this year. I got lucky with the dates, the first one is right after I plan to get back from traveling the NE, and the 2nd one is right after I get back from Peru. I'm glad it worked out so I can support these events!

Why is everyone talking about a $150 license? Is there a difference between the Mountain Rider License ($60) and International License ($150)?

Thanks, Will Murray

PS dont call it a come back.

All primary USAC pro mtb license are international and cost $150. The $60 may be an add on if your primary license is road or something else.

Heard directly from the mouth of Trill Will today ... "The stumpy is being retired from slalom duties"
Yes it's true, the stumpy has taken much abuse and I'm going to let it out to pasture on the xc trails and in the forest. I've got a little slalom bike project that I'm working on, hopefully it'll be runnin very soon...

O yea, this guys pumped to be on the stoke train! Next stop, shredville:thumb:
