Gary Fisher Superfly

Came across a deal on a 2009 superfly. Can anybody that has had time on one give me the pros and cons?? I have a 4 inch travel full suspension 26er - just looking for something light that I may do some xc racing on and something a little different to ride.

I only rode one at the Demo at Lake Crabtree. I will say this the bike is freaking fast. Note, I am coming off of a 30 lb Reign with 6 inches of travel and a 650b front wheel.

It did not ride overly harsh. I liked the geometry for XC. Definitely ride one, if for nothing else the experience.

Got a chance to ride the superfly. I was blown away by how quick this bike is. Once you get it rolling it just wants to keep going. At my local trail I was climbing in gears much bigger then any of my other mountain bikes - but it's obviously lighter too at 22.90 lbs!!! So i bought it. Going to be my xc race rig for next year. Now if only I can lose 15-20 lbs - then those leg shavers in my class better get worried:D

The only bad thing is that I used the money to buy it that i was going to use for a roadbike. Guess I'm selling my Trek 69er - total spam, but it's in the classifieds if anyone is interested.

They are awesome bikes if you buy them new and have the Fisher warranty on them. A significant number of my friends race on them and love them.

I would not buy any carbon fiber bike from any manufacturer used (ie- without a warranty). Another friend just recently bought a used Scott Spark carbon fiber frame (26er). Four rides and the seat stay snapped. No warranty for him, so he's buying new stays on crash replacement. Four rides.

The risk with used carbon fiber is much greater than the risk with used aluminum, IMO. Visual inspection is much more effective with aluminum...

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
I had the opportunity to demo one last weekend at our local trails. It was pouring rain and the trails are really technical (I usually ride my Yeti 575 there, but have ridden my Orbea hardtail there without too much discomfort). I have ridden a couple of 29ers before and hated them...geometry was way off on the small (either too tall, too long or my toes were dangerously close to going into the front wheel) but the Superfly fit perfectly. I was ripping along rather quickly and I couldn't believe how well it cornered and rolled over the rocks and roots. I managed to drop my group (all but one guy) and didn't even think that I was going fast at all (oops). If I didn't love my Orbea hardtail as much as I do, I would definitely consider one...especially if I got a great deal on one.
