Hi all,

We're going to have a makeup trailday on Saturday, June 19th to work on Atomic Dog. Transition Bikes is the sponsor for this trailday, so you can expect a huge turnout and lots of great work to be done. Don't worry...Cam won't be in charge of food. ;)

Details are as follows:

Date: Saturday, June 19th
Sponsor: Transition Bikes
Time: Meet at 9:45 at Lake Padden Lot (across from Galby lane) and we'll head up the hill at 10AM.
Trail: Atomic Dog
Goal: Get Atomic Dog buffed, drainage finished, add a couple of features and dial in a new exit.

Mark it on your calendar and come help get another trail dialed.

Cheers,
EB

Is there any, any way you guys might possibly, somehow someway be able to organize a celebrity appearance for Pro-Rider Colin Tobin??? Please, maybe an autograph signing????

I have tried so hard to get noticed by him, which I totally understand because it must be so blinding being in his position, but I would DIE to get a picture with the guy!! He is my favorite rider in the WHOLE world and I look up to him soooo much. Please Mr. Extreme!!! I know you know him, help a desperate fan and a brotha out!! The whole community would kill for the opportunity!!

How do you guys picture this trail to run as it nears completion? Are you going to make it Nascar smooth like the new Luge (Unemployment trail) and the end of Evo? The way it is now is great, the more I ride it the more I love it. Its the raw, none groomed nature makes Atomic Dog different then anything else up at Galby!

Keep up the great work! Ill be seeing you guys up there!

Good question.

Nah, I'm not envisioning it like Unemployment Line. We'll buff it in a few small sections where we will be adding a jump or two (where extra speed will be necessary) and staying "as is" in most of the sections. It's funny because, prior to breaking myself off (again), our crew expressed how we liked a bunch of the off camber corners and some of the rootier sections. There are 3-4 major drainage issues that we'll need to fix which no doubt means buffing them a bit more than we'd like, but that's really necessary for it to be a 4 season trail.

A big chunk of the effort will be focused on extending the trail with the new exit cut in. I've got a lot of prep to do on that section and a major feature to prep for, so that section will require a good amount of man power on that day.

Cheers,
EB

This one goes out to Baker.

Bump.

Anyone not racing Arduum this weekend should come out and help get A-Dog dialed. We'll be prepping the new exit the next few days in hopes to get'r done on Saturday. The hill's just getting better.

Hi all,

We had a killer turnout this Saturday for our last official trailday of the season on Galbraith. Even with it being one of the only sunny days in recent weeks (hello summer, where art thou?), over 50 people took the day off the bike to help us get Atomic Dog dialed for the summer. There were a lot of the usuals on hand, but there was also a lot of new faces that were stoked to give back. Also, the trend of having more ladies and young riders joining us continued which is very cool.

Many thanks to Transition Bikes for inspiring such a big turnout….Kevin, Kyle and Cameron were out digging until the very end and those guys provided pizza and bevies for lunch.

We knocked off the following items:
• Drainage – The 4 major drainage issues were tackled and the vast majority of the trail is outsloped with big, proper drains now. We’ll revisit these in the fall to clear them out, but the foundation is in place now and should help the trail dry quickly. Hawk, Spence and Lorin were up top making sure everything was all done properly.
• Several berms got reshaped with a bunch of dirt added.
• The new exit got down to gold and is totally open with a couple of fun new features. Odin and Matt K. were leading that zone with a big posse.
• The rock wallride isn’t done yet, so we’ll be working on that over the next couple weeks. The step up that is between the two stepdowns got a proper tranny with Brandon and Kevin M. taking the lead on that zone.
• Exit to Unemployment Line – We had 2 trucks gathering rock and gravel and 10 folks tackled this project in the AM with Andrew’s lead. The amount of rock and gravel in there now, it should hold up fine ‘til Fall and we’ll reassess how it’s working then. If it becomes a problem again, we might have to build a small ladder into the berm. Still TBD.

While a few zones got buffed, the overall trail still retains it's rooty and rocky feeling. Some photos below:

Exit of Unemployment Line:

Lots of Rock and gravel added to the U Line exit. The last part of the berm was built up higher as well. The guy in red (Kyle) gets extra points for showing serious mulletude.

Leanna shoveling gravel.

Atomic Dog work:

This is where the trail crosses into the new exit. We will reveg the left side (riders right) once we finish the rock wallride.

New exit section takes you into the biggest glacial erratic I’ve seen on the whole mountain. The approach to the wallride isn’t done yet – nor is the exit berm. When I stumbled across this, it was after several hours of scouting in the rain and it had a glowing aura around it. Of course, that could’ve been hypothermia talking too.

After the rock, it leads down into a small (and rollable) hip move before exiting out towards the yellow gate.

Transition’s co-owners walk the walk. They shoveled all day long and helped lead a couple of killer projects.
Kevin working on the step up zone.

Kyle working in the rock wall zone.

The gals were out in force….here helping Matt and TJ.

Can someone remind Odin that he’s got a recently repaired collarbone? It comes across as hypocritical coming from me. ;)

Thanks to everyone that came out for the build days this season. The riding community is really giving back to the hill in the form of sweat equity and the support has been inspiring, to say the least.

Cheers,
EB

So beautiful. I think I may actually cry...

That erratic is truly a gold mine. I see a step up table drop maybe?
