Boxxer race question???

Can anyone verify that the comp side stanchion has the ciclip groove at the bottom of it to hold the damper guts in.... If it does then it should be a pretty straight forward install like the WC was. No driling or reworking peices on my end.

NO, it looks like a 2009 stanchion...

The 35mm adapters are ordered and will be in soon (few weeks) and Craigs running a 32mm boxxer special for a limited time buy the cartridge for $299 and get the 32mm adapter kit for free... saves $89.

So thats a solid price for what it is and with the adapter kit free if your changing chasis then sell off your 32mm kit and use the money to go towards the kit needed for your new fork...

I frequent the site looking for tid bits on tuning and updated tech tips....

The cartridge is a monster no doubt, literally the boxxer is a totally different fork now.....
Hands down the best fork I have ever rode...... Id say its on-par with the DHF except its lighter this way with the same feel IMO making it better then the DHF....

Great review! Is this kit available for the 2010 boxxer (35mm) yet, or not?

I also need a new rear shock. Anybody tried the Monite?

The 35mm adapters were just ordered up from the machine shop, theres a final measurement needed as far as threads and top cap and they are on there way in... I have the preproduction cap on my 2010 WC (35mm).

Havent tried the montie but Im running the woodie now and had DHS's in the past... The shocks match the front amazing zero fade on long runs and consistant the whole way through. They really perform at speed and the reliability is amazing.... Tuning is custom on the stuff so they are fitted to rider weight/style and bike you wont find a better shock...

AVALANCHE SUSPENSION AND STILL 37.4lbs... Performance and light weight...

I cant wait until the 35mm Boxxer is out. Hope my boxxer will ride like my MTN8
OK I stand corected thats the one bike that will last as long as the avy suspension :thumb:

The cartridge feels like a DHF (almost identical and just as controlled/plush) its the same cartridge just 2mm smaller to accomdate the other forks... Open bath so its plenty lubed and consistant from the 1st 1" to the bottom out. Got to love speed sensative suspension the consistancy is nice....

I know the mtn 8 is a monster unto itself, oversized and a complete BAD @$$.....

BTW thats a bad @$$ bike...

Sounds cool. I´m getting a kit for my 2010 wc Boxxers when they´er done.
As for the Motie, I just wondering if it can compare to the DHS´
I got one of those on my Racelink, and it´s by far the best rear shock I´ve ever ridden. And that´s a lot. My Turner DHR frame does not deal with the big res on the chubbie, so that´s why I wonder. Don´t want to go remote res either. Price is also an issue. Montie is cheap!

The montie should be great I rode with a guy with one on his turner this weekend and it was bangin..... Spot on and aside of being shy on travel (bike) for the course it was handling really well....

I wouldnt have an issue on anything Craig makes, if it isnt what he considers to be top tier it wont hit the market... And he has HIGH standards...

As far as the kit for the boxxer you will be floored by what the performance difference is as well as the overall....

I have been having some issues with my 2008 Boxxer World Cups and have been seriously considering buying this upgrade kit. I just have a quick question.

Will this kit perform exactly the same in the 2008 Boxxers compared to the 2010's or will there be a difference in performance between the two models?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you upgrade a 2010 boxxer and a 2008 boxxer w/the AVA advantage cartridge they will perform identical (from a damping perspective) since the cartridges are the same (only the adapters are different). The chassis may feel different since the 2010 is allegedly stiffer (I never flexed my 2008 boxxer...that i noticed, and I haven't ridden a 2010 to make a fair comparison but there are others on here that comment on that).

how much do you weigh? my friends Boxxer Team flexes like a noodle under me
ahhh....that's personal:yu:

175 # I also tend to ride more on the finesse side of the scale than the plow side of the scale. Maybe a better way to state it is that what ever perceived flex there was in the fork never bothered me or it wasn't noticeable at the time, I just never liked the damper in that thing. With that being said, there is a big difference going from that to the 40 RC2 I am riding now.

Got a second set of suspension items (project) and figured Id do a tear down and if anyone has questions let me know Ill take pics and break down stuff if needed... Ill post pics of where the mid speed valve goes etc... Ill probably be doing a mid speed valve on the boxxer cart soon enough...

So feel free to ask for pics or questions It will be sitting out for a while so I will try and get picture requests and questions answered...

Sorry for some of the washed out pics Ill get some better ones to replace these..

Is the bladder still filled with Nitrogen or did you empty it first?

What oil will you use to rebuild it?

Can you take photos of the oil tunnel in the shock bridge and the piston head?

THANKS

Bladder is not filled with nitrogen right now not till its on based on the dual rubber press fit and then the c-clip to clip it in... Its a durable material for sure not shy on thickness or durability. After gutting this one and playing with it , im more impressed now then before its a really well designed unit and easy to service...

Do you know what oil Craig used?

OK Avalanche is now doing a race tune for the Marzocchi TST and ROCO WC shocks modified (machined internals) and revalved fro rider weight, linkage and suspension design. As well as new seals is on the board possibly to the ones that can take the beating like the ones he uses in the 5th elements no issues to date...

As well as the Fox race tune is on the board for Aug. 12th and repalces the propedal and it goes totally speed sensative as well... Again rider weight, style, leverage ratio etc goes into the build for each individual....

Finally its about time the AVA program has been released its been in conversation and research for years and the FOX DHX program as been in the works for over a year for this particular unit to eliminate the pro pedal...

FOX DHX hi/lo race tune will be $199 out the door and the Marzocchi is $179 being as its speed sensative to begin with this eliminates the oil leaks and opens it up (modifications and machining internals) to eliminate packing and make it perform like it was designed too....

Per avalanche:
FOX Race tune $199
Replaces ProPedal Adjuster with an Independent high/low speed compression adjuster system in the existing Fox piggyback housing. This conversion complements
the revalved main piston to completely convert the DHX to a true speed sensitive damper.

Includes revalve and setup for rider, frame and conditions.

Also includes complete rebuild service, new improved seals, oil, nitrogen charge and typical wear parts* included in price

*(Typical wear parts: shaft seal, dust scraper, shaft bushing, reducer DU bushings, and o-rings)

Yeah it would be cool to have him over here but fed ex and UPS takes care of that...

His turn around has always been second to none and never had an issue with a part... Custom tunes have always been the best and the good part is he actually modifies stuff to work and flow like it should so its more than a few SHIMZ and oil its actually a modified tune... Bang for the buck...:thumb:

See now if I hadnt gone over to find the oil for tacubaya Id have not seen this... Updating it faster than Id have thought...Spent the last little bit going over to see what else has changed....

Cartridge kits with the 32mm Boxxer adapter are $299 with adapter included promo... So if you have a older boxxer and are planning on upgrading buy the kit install it get a renewed sense of performance and tuning then when you get the newer boxxer chasis buy an adapter and swap it over.... You can sell the older boxxer with the adapter and the old internals so the new owner can cartridge it as well... Its like the accesorising of suspension......:weee:

I was going to get my dhx pushed at the end of this season, but now I am thinking this might be a better option. Cheaper too...
No question!!!!
30+ years of this the man is in his own right like the godfather of suspension...design and engineering... Maybe a bit stubborn but he has given us all a bunch of good stuff beat on including other tuners hes engineered, machined made parts for and coached along... So other custom suspension tuners stuff has Craigs influence and or parts designs in it wether we know it or not....:thumb:

Interesting indeed! :)

I just got my cartridge installed and have done some riding.
It's really, really nice! Almost as nice as I remember the DHF! Same feel, but much lighter! I will try some more compression next time. I'm also exited to try to rearrange the shims for harder compression, sometime in the future. (as described in the manual)

Bullcrew, how did you remove the ABP sleeve/cone that's covering the base valve? Does it just screw out? What tools did you use? I don't want to damage anything!

I was in a hurry to install it before the weekend, so I didn't get a chance to weight it before/after, but since it uses the same amount of oil (150cc) as stock, I don't think it's much difference.

My bike:

If I can find a used DHX, I'd send it in for upgrade as soon as possible, or I'll wait till the end of the season. It's getting done, though!

Roger - Avalanche addicted, again! :)
