Alcohol + explosives and/or guns always equals either a good time, or missing limbs. I figure as many first responders as are on here some folks have got to have some stories. Post em up.
ISLIP TERRACE, N.Y. — Police say a man lighting fireworks has blown off his arm at a party on New York's Long Island.

Suffolk County police say 36-year-old Eric Smith was using a 3-foot-long metal tube to shoot mortar shells from the street near his Islip (EYE'-slip) Terrace home around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police believe he leaned over the device to ignite it and didn't get out of the way before an explosive shot out of the launcher. His left arm was severed at the shoulder.

Smith was taken to Southside Hospital in serious condition while friends packed the lost limb in ice to try to save it. Police believe doctors will try to reattach his arm.

A hospital spokesman didn't immediately return a call.

Police say another person at the party also was taken to a hospital, but it's unclear why.

That happened to some kid here last year, I don't think he got his hand back. There was a huge fireworks show that got cancelled so he tried lighting the mortars himself.

I still have a lot of huge fireworks from last year, but they're in a closet and I do not currently plan on touching them. With my hands. That I have.

I escaped uninjured. Weekend at Platty, my only crash was a super minor low speed one on the cool down run I took after my race run. Called it a day at that point.

Saw an ambulance taking someone off the local hill on the first run today, then on the second run a guy i was riding with clipped a tree mid air and broke his collar bone. A guy that came up on us had a sling and some ibuprofen so it wasn't too bad of a walk out for him, i think I'm gonna start caring a sling now, collar bones are easy to break.

I got wild and crazy and woke up with a righteous hangover yesterday. It was so bad I didn't have my hair of the dog until 2:30... after 2 bloody marys, I was fantastic again ;)

I was a wimp, er, had to work yesterday. Did get a road ride in to visit Alaina with no injuries. Hi-tailed it out of town before the 'works started since Kingsbury is the shortest/quickest way home. Loads of people getting ready to watch, and I missed the traffic.

I visited a friend at his cottage and used Google Earth to plot out my ride. Bonus points for not checking that the imagery was from 2005. Note to self: Briars and brambles can grow a lot in 5 years.

I kept thinking that:
"This patch ought to end soon"
"I'm gonna hit that cross trail any minute now"

It took two hours to get through a half mile of brambles. There isnt a part of my arms, chest, back and legs that doesnt have some form of scratch or embedded pricker thorn... Yeah, I should of turned around, but by the time I had that thought, I didnt know which was was back...

I never have had a good fourth of July ride.
