Finally went from a 2.7 in front to a 2.5 and really love the extra speed and low rolling resistance...been using Intense 909 FRO that were dirt cheap at Jenson USA...only prob I see is that the front tire doesn't want to hook up in loose stuff..esp. loose rocks and stones...I know this is a test for any tire...but the Maxxis Minnions DHF I used to use seemed way more stable in this condition...re-dialed the Fox 40 low speed compression several times this past weekend...very dry and lots of loose rocks...it helped...but still not the same joy the minnions provided...checked out new minnion DHF 3c compounds and they have become MAD efing EXPENSIVE!!!

Can anyone recommend a good front DH tire that is in the sub $40 range???

Chain Reaction has DHF's for $35 USD. Been meaning to order some myself.

Also, Blue Sky Cycling has High Rollers for $25.

Edit: Chain Reaction is actually above $40 for the 2.5. My fault...

Go back to jenson and look at the odd sized maxxis tires. I saw ardents in 2.4 for like 30 dollars. I havent ridden ardents, but they are maxxis and cheap. I hate to have to pay retail on my minnion dhfs but for how well they work, and how predictable they are, I cant see not spending the money.

I guess I'll just bight the bullet and get some Minnion DHF's that are not 3c. The 3c tires are now close to $80 each with shipping...even on ebay...there is no way I paid that much for them in the beginning of last year...they must have gone up...I suppose you do get what you pay for...the front DOES hook up like nobody's business...hope there is not a big pinch flat risk with the non 3c type,,,oh well,,,I would just buy the front since the Intense on the rear does just fine,,,but I HATE having 2 different tires on the bike,,,super ghey of me I know...but that's how I to roll!!!

BTW...anyone had any experience with Continental Diggas??? Now that's a cheap tire...18bucks at Jenson...black chile compound...but then again...the Intense 909's were 18 as well....maybe I'm seeing a pattern???

skip the intense tires...traction isn't as good once things get damp. I have been running a swampthing front and ardent rear to good effect. they are also both 20bucks on Jensons. I really like the 3C Ardents, they grip and corner well. The only downside is that they wear quick if you ride alot of rocky terrain ( and brake alot like me ;)

but for $20 bucks, i just stock up and buy 2 or 3!

I've recently been trying out the Intense DH FRO Lite 2.5, and the Intense DH ECDC on 2 different bikes. I really enjoy them. Traction seems to be good even in the Washington wet with lots of off-camber roots. I don't have a lot of time on them, but they made me feel comfortable right off the bat(in a similar way to a DHF).
Jenson has them for 15 and 17 a piece. I'm going to order up some more right now as I can't even come close to that getting them at cost through the shop.
