Hey Kyle: You should request some better coverage on squaw's site. It's kind of difficult to actually FIND the mtb info on there. Plus the opening day isn't even listed in their 'events' schedule.

Looking forward to checking out what you guys have been up to.

It would be great to see some more pictures and videos of the trail work you guys are doing and what is being built. We look forward to checking it out.
Rode there on Saturday with the DHRENO Crew. Squaw is huge, trails are fun. There is some gnarly stuff there and the main trail ready for use, Big Thunder Mountain, is loooong and should be a great trail for the park to open up with as there are several off shoots that can be ridden as well. There are big plans for MTB at Squaw... go out and support it!!

WARNING: Do NOT go to Squaw if you want to have fun. I went there the other weekend with super low expectations and I was severely disappointed. The trail they have is not even fun to ride, no flow whatsoever. My buddy put it best "it looks like a 12 year old built it." To make it even worse, every staff member except the cool guy who sold us our ticket treated us like ****. Super rude and clearly not happy to have mountain bikers around.

Didn't expect to hear that. I had high hopes for Squallywood, maybe this is an anomaly as they are in the first season.

Here's to hoping that they can improve, Squaw has the steepest terrain in Tahoe and I wanna ride it!

As usual another Mountain Biker with an opinion. Obviously you do not know what Kyle and the people at Squaw have been thru in the last 5 months to get a park re-opened. Maybe you should do some research before you let your mind do some thinking and your fingers do the typing. Maybe you could go to a mountain and build a trail that goes top to bottom in about 4 weeks and it will be perfect? If so call them up maybe one of the 12 year olds will hire you at 12 bucks an hour or whatever they get paid. Douche

Woah hey there!

Just because he didn't like it is no reason to get upset. It's the first season in operation so it's not surprising that the trails (oops, trail) are less than perfect. I'm sure the tickets are not cheap so expecting at least a smile from the staff is not that much to expect.

I know that the staff is working hard and ITT in the future SV has the potential to eclipse N* as the DH hill in Tahoe.

PS as a onetime winter employee of SV I can tell you that $12 is probably a little generous.

Just because people tried real hard doesn't mean someone is a douche for not liking it. This isn't a sweater your aunt knitted you for Christmas where it's the thought that counts. We're talking about a commercial operation that is competing for people's business. That business is keeping the customer happy and that is the only thing that will make Squaw a viable mountain in the future otherwise the customer will go somewhere else. Every business will get feedback good or bad, it's how well they listen and react to that feedback that will define them as a solid mountain or not.

If 4 weeks was not enough time for a decent trail, maybe they shouldn't have opened until they had one.

If their employees are under paid and that is reflected in their effort then maybe they should pay them more.

If riders don't like the flow of the trails, maybe they should keep that in mind when they build their next trail.

I really hope squaw's bid for another rideable mountain in tahoe succeeds, but it won't do it on happy thoughts and good intentions alone.

I was pleasantly impressed with Squaws trail. There is definite evidence of flow, about 30 berms, all hand dug trail for now. Lots of ladders and rocks. They built a great step-up jump the other day that flows very nicely, a true step up. Hacksaw is very good with flow, and I have high hopes for the next few years.

And YES the staff are rude. It is Squaw Valley.

Wait a minute. Did someone say the Squaw trail(s) have less flow than N*?? Impossible.

I really expect, and hope, that it all comes together for Squaw next year. With my schedule almost completey booked for the next month or so I most likely won't make it there this year so that might be a good thing. I will be there opening day next year.

It would be awesome if Squaw stepped it up and had some awesome trails built next year. I'll be one of the first ones in line to try them out. California had enough willing and ready riders to support several large and awesome bike parks, but no one has yet made it their mission to create such an animal.

I say send a few northstar and squaw decision makers (ie the dudes who decide where money goes) on a field trip to whistler for a week to evaluate how they do it there. It's not just the trails (although they are a big part) that make them successful, it's the entire attitude toward making their resort as bike friendly as possible and they're making a pile of cash off it in the summer time.
