I have two sets. For the price they can't be beat, they are super light (400g for the pair),really thin and are fully rebuildable. I've only had them about a month so durability is still up in the air. The stock pins weren't "pointy" enough so I swapped them out for set screws.

That seems like a crazy amount of machining for a pedal. I wonder how much the price would drop if there weren't so many holes and if the sides of the pedals weren't cut into.

This post is in no way intended to downplay/hype up/criticize/etc... I'm just curious from a manufacturing standpoint.

Knowing what the cost on the pedals is, I don't think the price could come down much more :thumb:

We got on of those J&B monthly special catalogs the other day with those pedals in it. For the price, I'm quite sure I'll pick up a pair and see how it goes. If I don't like them, they'll be used for a loaner bike pedal.

I really doubt they're machined to the extent you're thinking. I'd be surprised if the cross sectional profile wasn't made via extrusion and then the holes through the top were machined from there. Doing that would be pretty easy.

that was one thing i was worried about, almost looks rounded. how are the platforms? im coming off mg1s, and want a slightly larger platform.

The platform is huge. I used DMR V12s for one race and could barely keep my foot on the pedals (with 5.10s) so I figured I would give these a try. I rode them for 2 days at Diablo and they were great except for the stock pins but now that I replaced them with set screws they are the best set of platforms I've ever tried. Especially for the price.

Are the screws standard size/pitch (im assuming they are)? i think im going to pull the trigger on a set of the blue ones

I have a set on my ride now. I immediately swapped out the stock pins for a set of syncros pins. I love them now, they are the perfect pedal for the price paid. Platform is nice and wide, have had no issues in the mud so far, held up to a few rock smashes this far (m6).

Its a blatant copy of twenty6 now unlike chain guides there are a lot of ways to make pedals different....

That being said nice wide looking platform.
Yes, because there are just so many variables in pedal design, like:
- Platform size and shape... wait no those are all pretty damn similar
- Axle design... nup those are pretty similar too
- Bearing choice... either bushes or bearings, lots of choices there!
- Pins... well nobody's dumb enough to not use pins/set screws/whatever anymore.
- Thickness... yep a whole 5mm or so difference in thickness from the thinnest to the fattest. Huge.
- Colours. This one is indisputable. Designers have more choice of colours that people might actually buy pedals in, than for any other product. You can make them look really different by painting them black, or red, or blue, or a different shade of one of the above, or some kind of wack colour that looks like a combination of syphilis and a tarot card reading whilst you're smashed out of your mind on mushrooms. Designers should take note of this colour.

It's a pedal, accusing anyone of copying anyone else is stupid since everyone is copying the 1983 Shimano DX pedal anyway.

Yeah your right they look like Konas, expedos, crampons, eastons, shinburgers, etc... ;)

really does look like the chinese got a set of last years twenty6 pedals and are just undercutting the competition... If that's true, you'll get your money's worth with these.

looks like those pedals wont hold up to one run of anything around here imo. tunnel and cold springs eats pedals/cranks.

If you think these are twenty6 copies you havnt seen anything yet...

Check these out - 230g a pair with ti axles is mega light, i cant see durability being too great!

Dude, that is frucking scary!:shocked::popcorn:

I know for a fact that those will snap right at the bridge to the outside part of the spindle. Yikes.

On the note of bearings in pedals. There isn't much to worry about. They are cheap and require less maintenance for the life of the bearings. My crampons only have 2 tiny bearings and they held up for a long time considering. They also only cost $5 and 2 minutes to replace.

Balls that belong in ball point pens. I've never understood why anyone uses anything but IGUS bushes in pedals, but thats just me.
Clearly you've never ridden in Canada. IGUS bushes suck in wet weather because they're difficult to seal well, and prone to seizure if they get any dirt/water in there. I traded in my Straitlines for some Wellgos for this reason alone.

the platforms huge and feels so much nicer than the mg1s. i just need to replace the pins (rounded annodized aluminum?????) thinking syncross mental (but then id spend more on pins than pedals, who knows)

Hey nmn25,

Any chance of a quick review seeing as you have had the pedals for a coupple of weekends now? And are you able to give an accurate weight for the pedals?

Cheers,
Tom

They are 400g exactly for the pair with stock pins. I weighed them the first day they came in.

The stock pins are the weak point of the pedal but after swapping them out I'm extremely happy. I've gotten 3 more days of riding on the pedals (about 7/8 total) and I'm very pleased with how they've held up. I can tell the aluminum used for the body is fairly soft but for how light and inexpensive they were I can deal with that. I'm contemplating ordering a second pair just to have, with the house brand stuff from QBP/J&B you never know when they might discontinue something.

Unfortuneatly im on block island right now, so i have no real ride time yet, just a couple real short flat rides (aint nothing here in terms of real mountain biking). but im leaving to go back to co in less than a week and gonna do plenty of real time testing (keystone, winterpark etc). I can say they are huge platforms and so far feel a lot better than the mg1s (thinner, wider, more pin options and look baller). i dont have a wieght yet (scale is back in co), but they feel a little more than 25gs heavier than the mg1s (altho that could def be just me).

I have decoys on my dj bike, these feel similar albeit larger (whick i like, size 12 shoe).

Ill post up a longterm, more indepth review once i have real ride time (as well as a durability report) oce i get a few days in the rockies. but so far, i would def say they are worth the price.

I sorted the pin problem and they are significantly more grippy. plenty holding power w/ 6.0s

I just went to buy these pedals off of Amazon.com, unfortunately they don't ship to Australia. I have been searching for a while now and I can't seem to find another online store that stocks these pedals. Does anybody know of any that ship to Australia?

Any help is much appreciated.

So wondering about that review you promised. Had the fall and a little spring now to try to find a weakness and price for these is still tempting.
