Should I work at DW Drums?

I have been unemployed for almost a year now and today a temp agency called to see if I would be interested in a temp gig (I do accounting/collections).

It turns out that it is with DW Drums, which is really cool. The downside is that it is only for two weeks and probably not much of a chance of going permanent plus the pay is very low (my Unemployment Compensation is more that that). I have a fear that if I don't take it I could lose my UC for refusing work.

Any thoughts?

ouch, that is a tough spot to be in. if it was a chance for a real hire and a promotion to good money, it would be obvious, and sweet. i don't know the laws around unemployment and what is required. it would certainly suck if taking the job "backfired" and cost you more money that being on unemployment.

...that said. get a job, hippie.

check your unemployment laws, they might make up the difference if you accept a job that will make less then what unemployment would pay you. At least thats the way i understood how Wyoming's unemployment worked.

I work in staffing, every state's laws are different.

However, turning a job down because it is less than unemployment is grounds for being reported to the state, next, in michigan if you work for 2 weeks, your unemployment will be extended by two weeks, also, as a recruiter I can tell you that many times (not always) an assignment that is a 2 week assignment "CAN" turn into something longer or permanent if you do a good job and the stars align.

I'd suggest taking the opportunity and continuing to search for long term gainful employment.

I had decided to do the interview and if offered the job take it and hope it turned into something good but the point is moot now as they called me and canceled the interview as they filled the position. Now if I can get a second interview with a property management company I interviewed with a month ago I'd be stoked. That interview went well but the company is dragging their heels right now
