Or, my woman has a predicament:

She wants a quickish commuter/town bike. She currently has an Electra Townie and some ancient Huffy mixte that weighs 14,000lbs. These both accommodate her love of sundresses, but do not accommodate her love of getting anywhere with any sort of expediency. Hills on them are also unpleasant, especially her commute to school (approx. 400 feet of climbing).

Does anyone make a Mixte frame that doesn't weigh/cost more than a house? There's the Soma, but the price is stupid for what it is/how much it weighs. Should I tell her to stfu and show her cooter to the world? I can't say I've ever ridden a bike in a skirt (sober), so I don't know what the disadvantage to having a real top tube is...

Are you talking about bikes or your disdain for boobies ?

Fuji Absolute series. The female frames for those are mixte.

The Trek Allant WSD comes to mind, it's about $480 complete retail, comes w/ swept-back bars, fenders, and a front rack.

I saw a Masi mixte the other day that looked awesome, but a 3-speed was around $800.

Edit - Specialized Globe Vienna isn't too bad either.

That's what I was gonna say. Get her a cool vintage bike. My wife has one and it's a really fun ride. Plus you are probably looking at around $200 and a new set of tires/ brake pads for something cool, rather than dumping 500 into something that will do basically the same thing.

I may just go this route - get her a cheap/lighter than the current mixte on CL. If she expresses any interest in longer rides, then investigate the possibility of a "real" road bike.
