The Crime of the Century: What BP and the US Government Don't Want You to Know, Part I

The unprecedented disaster caused by the BP oil spill at the Deepwater Horizon Mississippi Canyon 252 site continues to expand even as National Incident Commander Thad Allen and BP assert that the situation is improving, the blown-out source capped and holding steady, the situation well in hand and cleanup operations are being scaled back. The New York Times declared on the front page this past week that the oil was disolving more rapidly than anticipated. Time magazine reported that environmental anti-advocate Rush Limbaugh had a point when he said the spill was a "leak". Thad Allen pointed out in a press conference that boats are still skimming on the surface, a futile gesture when the dispersant Corexit is being used to break down oil on the surface. As the oil is broken down, it mixes with the dispersant and flows under or over any booming operations.

It's an interesting article, but the implications go further than just the idea that Obama and Co. appear to be in bed with BP to an extent. It's that they didn't use this crisis to their advantage by allowing the media access to pictures of tons of dead dolphins, sea turtles, bird, etc. to fuel public outrage in attempt to further environmental reforms that need to happen. It illustrates that neither side of the aisle has much foresight, or cares about this planet in any serious way. Pretty much makes me sick.

To sum it up in a pretty picture, look at LA's reaction to the spill, with the crying and demand for compensation while fighting a temporary ban on drilling.

Making cake and asking for a fork and glass of milk at the same time.

Read that yesterday - if there's a lot of truth to much of that story, it is indeed sickening. Just goes to show what we all know...politics is more intertwined with big business than ever and until that changes, these ridiculous crimes will continue.

A good friend of mine used to be a spin doctor for Chevron and BP disasters. His offical title was "Managing Safety Coordinator" but the only safety he managed was the corporate image. He quit last year when he grew a conscious, but BP has been calling him for about 2 months soliciting his services, he told them to go f@ck themselves, literally.

How does a giant multinational literally fvck themselves? I guess they have no shortage of giant drills, so I suppose if they ran one through their biggest asshole (hayward?) that would count.

Don't the Russians blow up a leaking oil well the next day & be done with it!?

Oh,we were all saved by the almighty "static kill".100 days or whatever is ridiculous to let oil gush out of the well.
