Hi, I’m Evan Powell. I’m 18 and I am an upcoming freshman at the University of British Columbia. I am also a professional downhill mountain biker in my home state of Colorado. I was recently selected by USA Cycling to attend the downhill World Championships in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec to compete against some of the best junior racers in the world. For me, the World Championships are the event of a lifetime and attending them has been my goal since the day I started racing. I am hopeful and excited about this event but I cannot make it out there without your help. To support my racing, a friend and I make high quality kitchen cutting boards out of a garage. Each cutting board is made out of recycled sustainable hardwoods so each cutting board will be unique. If you are interested in buying a cutting board to help me get to Worlds, please contact me at evanhpowell@gmail.com. The main board we are selling is $60.00 plus shipping and is about 11.5 by 9 inches. It provides a great gift and the money will help define my experience at Mount Sainte Anne. You can also visit our website at www.munditreeworks.com to see what else we do. I apologize for the short notice since Worlds are two weeks away. Thanks for your help!

-Evan

You get a huge amount of respect for trying to support your trip to worlds by doing something constructive. Way too many people just ask for $. I'm going to sticky this for you and change up the title a bit to help out.

If you would have done this a few weeks ago it could have helped you a ton! Good luck.

Idea: I don;t even know if this is possible, but could you possibly do one to look like a MTB wheel? Just darker wood around the outside and in center etc.

It would be more complicated, but you could charge more for a special edition that MTBers would love?

I gave this guy the google treatment and found an old blog and some other stuff, and he seems like a stand-up young man. He's doing his best to get himself to races with minimal support, and he looks to be humble and well-spoken. Apparently he came back from a nasty injury a couple of years back. He's headed to college in the fall. Oh, and he can still ride a bike fast down a hill.

He's trying to fill a (likely unanticipated) financial gap at the last minute by selling an actual product, and the best some can offer is "should have done it earlier" and "I don't need another cutting board."

Says a lot about the atmosphere and "community" on these forums, doesn't it? Internet downhill warriors, indeed. If you wonder why this sport's growth curve is stagnant, look no further than this thread.

Evan: hopefully someone with more resources recognizes your dedication and talent and covers the remainder of your budget to get to Worlds. Best of luck to you.

To the chumps: I understand you've all got important stuff to do, such as arguing about which foot to put forward and how to shave 50 grams from a set of pedals. Carry on; you've got big Cat 2 races to place mid-pack in this weekend.

Transcend- I really appreciate you "sticking" this thread, a couple button clicks like that will go a long ways. I know it would have been convenient if I posted this earlier but to put things in perspective, I found out I made the team and the ensuing financial costs all within the last two weeks so its been quite a scramble. I love the idea of making a wheel shaped board, though it may be difficult. I will see if my partner and I can do something like that as soon as we are finished with our recent batch of boards

Aaronjb- I just can't tell you how much I appreciate your support and kindness- it really shows a human quality that you don't often see on web forums. You are a good person.

It really sucks for the jr riders how USAC announces the list and then says here is a week to get us X dollars
Couldn't agree more. For a kid like Evan who was on the bubble, it's really tough.
For those that don't know him, he's as stand-up as you could ask for. He's worked his way up the through the MSC race series to a spot on the Yeti Support team. He's probably slept on more floors and scrounged more rides than almost any other junior rider I know. Now that he's got his shot, he's got something to offer those who help him make it there. I don't need a cutting board either, but I may have an extra ( I hear they make fine gifts)
I know times are tight and it's the end of season, but this is something for a really good cause.

When are you moving up to Van? You should bring some with you, all the Canadian rippers just complain about no funding...

If you make it up and need a place to stay, I have a Chalet booked from the 2nd to the 6th you can stay at (can't guarantee a bed, but the place is big). We can help you out with bringing things to the top of the hill etc as well. Cost you a cutting board though :P

Thanks for the help everyone! If you bought a board recently, I just sent out a few so you should be getting yours soon enough. They are looking great. Here are a few pictures...

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the help and support. Because of you guys, I will make it out there and have a place to stay. Today is the last day I can ship boards before I take off for Worlds. Let me know if you still want one!
