It would have been nice to see Gwin capture the win. Good to see Steve Smith in the top so consistently this year! :-)

Womens-

In all the excitement I totally forgot to check on the womens results etc, gutted for Manon Carpenter in the juniors breaking her elbow, she was a class ahead of the other juniors this year and was looking so strong for worlds!

Just got back from Windham. Watched both 4X and DH plus mixed in riding at Plattykill too - what a weekend.

4X - it was all over in the first corner. Graves had an amazing accelration out of that corner for the win and we were there shouting Aussi Aussi to chear him on which I am sure helped :-)

DH was just amazing. I have seen several of the fast guys at the US Open buy the track and the riding was just another level. Hill doing sneaky lines was cool but I was amazing to see the difference in riding styles from all the riders. Was standing right by the road gap when Cedric did the no hander point to us and look at us at the crowed who then went crazy what a fun rider and great he is still riding. Gwin coming into the turn after the road gap was an experience I wish I had the strength to hold on to my bike like he does. Gee just looked so smooth and relaxed on the bike it looked like he was not even going that fast.

It was so cool to finally get to a WC after so many years of following the WC.

What happened to Steve Peat?

What happened to Steve Peat?
He was one pace to crush Gee's time. Totally yard saled just after the second split. Was up about 1.45 seconds and blew up. Was good to see him get back up and finish, but the crash was gnarly. He was missing his right brake lever when he crossed the finish line.

Ahh that sucks I got goose bumbs when the man came by - he looked great so it was before the crash. Strange as the last part of the course look perfect for him. Revenge next weekend for would be super cool.

It was an awesome run until he went down. My 4 and 6 year old girls were chanting "Go Peaty go! Go Peaty go!" Then he went down and they both yelled "That must have hurt!"

Anyone wanna illuminate how Peaty crashed? I mean from the pics that looks like one of the smoothest straightest parts of the track? Someone through a branch in his spokes?

Wow. I still can't believe I was able to drive up this morning and watch my very first World Cup race!. Never thought after watching these guys online & on DVDs that i'd ever be able to meet/watch them race balls out. That course was insane, no other way to describe it. Can't believe Damien's crash; seeing it live and having his bike come hucking our way was pretty wild, thank god he got up. Really awesome and hope it comes back to Windham again!:thumb:

there is a steep step down right there and if you go too big off it the landing is flat. my guess is he went a little too big off it, landed flat and got blown off the bike.
We were there as Gee came through that section. He aired the whole section out, landed to flat at the bottom. I have no f'n idea how he rode that out or didnt blow his bike up. Insane. So fun to watch.

That steep is way crazier than any pics or video will do it justice. Top guys (Gee and Brycland especially) were jumping literally 20-25ft to flat on it. It was a fade away with a wheelbase length of landing to hit. I was standing right at the bottom when peaty came in and he was off line to his left (maybe trying to catch the little bit of fresh landing) and came in a bit too far and much too nose heavy and absolutely blew up. I cant even begin to comprehend how he got right up from it, guess they dont call him sheffield steel for nothing. Hope he's ok for next weekend.

Man what a day. To be able see a World Cup on US soil and only have to drive a few hours to see it is incredible The race was amazing, the track was better then I expected. This being the first year back in the states I was not surprised by the small attendance. I think next years attendance will be much bigger as Americans understand what a special event this was. What a race Gregg, Pete, Gee, Aaron where just flying. You really have to see it in person to understand how big, how fast and how smooth they are. I cannot wait for next year. More cowbells

then there are not many people racing there. WHERE IS THE CROWD? this is a world cup ffs, even small races in germany attract a bigger crowd. wasted world cup, should have been in europe, a least people there appreciate a race like that...

most foot in mouth post I have read on here in a while....

crowds were quite large, and they were getting wild :thumb:

talking to a handful of Euro racers who did not qualify for finals and were out spectating, they were pumped on the crowd and energy here and were wishing they got the same when racing at home.

not sure where you are drawing your conclusion from

what your cant see sitting on your couch and bitching is all the crowds packed into the woods getting mental.

From NZ's Spoke magazine:

I’m not very good at maths (so I’ve just conferred with Spoke reviewer and banker Mark Dangerfield on these stats) but in response to Dirt Magazine being stoked on having five Brits in the top ten I just thought I’d break it down for them how much radder we are. So it goes like this: Great Britain has five riders in the top ten at the Windham World Cup. Their country has 64 million people so that means that they had a ratio of 1 in 12 million people in the top ten. New Zealand has three riders in the top ten at Windham, and we have 4.5 million people so that means that we had a ratio of 1 in 1.5 million people, which I think is pretty good, and in fact means that we are roughly seven times better at downhill than the UK. If you want a real laugh though check the USA stats; they have 307 million people and one person in the top ten, which means that we are around 200 times better than them.

We do have a bit of an unfair advantage though...

Today's local paper (Times Union) estimated the crowd at roughly 12,000.

Are you high, man? The crowd was bigger than many Euro World Cups and it was definitely MUCH louder. Much, MUCH louder. Trust me, there are plenty of people happy not to be back in Europe at the end of the season...including a lot of Euros.

Welcome back to the land of convenience, World Cup!

All I can say is this was an awesome event!!! The energy and excitement in the air was intoxicating.
For a first WC event in so many years, it was a hit. Between all of the racing, people, parties, enthusiastic fans, volunteers and Windham it was something not to be missed again if opportunity arises.
As a DHI course marshal yesterday at Alligator Rock I had the opportunity to be positioned with the UCI Asst Race Director. In speaking with him throughout the day he said the feedback from riders and UCI was very positive and they were more than impressed with the event. So that's a huge hurdle in getting this back next year.
The Citizens Race the World was also a great event. Timing was on schedule, and they were great DH and XC courses. Only negative I see was low turn out for amateur racing. Also the awards were kind of lame the way they shuffled everyone thru quickly and were setting up the band in the background. I guess the WC schedule takes priority but how many chances do us small guys have at standing on a WC stage??? Give us an extra minute in our glory!! Whatever.
Next year will be bigger and I can't wait to go again.
Windham World Cup 2011!!!!!

Land of Convenience? There was not one burger drive through anywhere! Actually, i had to laugh out loud at a random brit on some windham vid saying that Windham was a 'hick town'. It seems that the whole "land of convenience" thing is now a world wide problem, not just a US disease.

holy smokes my ears are still ringing from all the cowbells and vuvuzelas and I'm still a bit hazy from all the booze....

One other thing I do want to say for now is how incredibly impressed my teammates, friends and I were at how well put together this event was, and even more impressive is that it was being put on by a predominantly volunteer workforce!!! big ups to Windham Mountain and congrats to all the racers!

There was plenty of lodging options, stores, gas, eateries, etc. What exactly were you looking for? Strip clubs and mini golf??
Besides, WC riders don't eat at drive thrus! As for the rest of us, we don't matter at a WC. As you may have noticed, its all about UCI.
Unfortunate for masses, but just the way it is.
You still had fun right??

Over your shoulder whispering
Trumpore, Fraser....easy on the fella. On Freecaster, which is all we had to go on, the crowd seemed smaller and quieter than a Euro World Cup. Maybe if there had been bleachers in the finish area? Or maybe the massive amount of ski slope to finish on scattered everybody out.

Loved watching it on Freecaster. It was the first time it literally streamed flawless for me.

Where Peat crashed...Gracia made reference that it was the scariest part of the whole course.

Oh, and now that you've all seen Cedric on a ripper of a run....can you imagine how high up he'd have finished if he stayed on the bike? Granted...that trick was insane!!!!

Butch, I don't want to get in the way of your man crush on Gracia but here's may take on the guy: Sure he has quite the legacy and influence in the sport but his time has passed. It may not be his intention, but seeing a guy constantly pulling tricks while racing on the WC circut,...it's like he's clowning the sport IMO. It would be like seeing someone throw in a 360 in a DH ski race or watching the 2nd place superbowl team perform a celebration dance in the endzone. It might be amusing once, but it seems to be the only spotlight that he can desperately grab. I can see why the French federation did not pick him for worlds, he's not a good representative in the current world of RACING. I don't mean to hate on the guy but I think if you're not out to win, or at least climb the ranks, then it's time to move on.
