just out of curiosity, how do they choose who is already pre-qualified and who isn't? i mean Robbie Bourdon is pre-qualified and while he is one of my favorite riders to watch what big stuff has he been doing lately that lets him be a pre-qualified rider? (that said i have not been paying much attention to any thing in the past 2 years really as far as contests, racing, and videos go) yet Casey Groves just got 3rd at Crankworks and he still has to qualify. i know they are two way different venues and all and i am not talking solely about these two riders im just using them as an example

You're assuming the organizers are being fair and will offer an offer a level playing(aka judging) field to all of the athletes. Being that Red Bull puts this on and Bourdon is a Red Bull athlete (albeit a washed up one) it doesn't surprise me that he makes the big show no problem.

For some reason I doubt you'll see a Rockstar or Monster athlete on the top step of the podium not because of performance but because of corporate considerations.

looks like if you made the finals previous years, your pre-qualified.

hopefully brendan makes it and throws some sick whips over the canyon gap.

Interesting to see Soderstrom and Lacondeguy not "pre-qualified" even though they're both Red Bull riders...

That list is STACKED! Should make for a really fun event to watch.

Will Whites a good kid, not on par with alot of those guys but at his age he has a TON of potential and Id like to see him season himself in the big arena and work it out...
He can definently have a future especially if a more branded company were to take him in and allow him coaching and groom him the potential for him is good... He already has the major key ingredient! HUGE BALLS!!!

They are versatile but they are primaly dirt jump riders. All the pre qualified guys are more freeride oriented than slopestyle/dj. A lot of the guys who send it on the smaller jumps may not be as good on the rampage stuff.

Also - where is Cam McCaul? Injury?

Im intrigued as to what Soderstrom will be riding, since he's been reduced to riding an old cove hooker for quite a few seasons of slopestyle riding.

Cam Zink has to be a favourite, he's on fire at the moment

you are assuming wrong... and Robbie Bourdon has not been sponsored by Red Bull since 2008

and you will see the best rider on top of the podium, regardless of sponsorship considerations, don't worry :thumb:

Keep in mind, a lot of riders are invited each year, a lot don't show up.
Like the Lacondeguy's last time. Peaty showed up for one, rode a few lines, then left.
Its a burly contest with a small payout, so I don't expect Fairclough to compete, but who knows, I'd love to be wrong!

Going in October!

...a secret feature built by Oakley, dubbed the “ Icon Sender” and developed by George Yoo, rider Cedric Gracia and Steve Blick, will be (somewhat) revealed prior to Interbike...

must be something pretty freaking rad. speculate!

i'm guessing a loop de loop booter. or a giant trebuchet that launches riders out of the valley! sweet!

kid is sick freerider hence the invite to rampage. he is getting to be a better racer too. finished decently at sea otter IIRC.

IMO while very similar (requiring skill on a bike), racing and freeriding are very different. i know a guy who is a wicked fast dh racer but never gets airborne and hates being airborne; whereas i have ridden with lots of guys who can put me to shame on djs and a slopestyle course but are incredibly slow when it comes to racing.

to each their own, but i think rampage is a good fit for the kid. an invite to mt st. anne? not yet.

I am sure Will is a good rider, but he seems to define the word Huck.
He is a hucker. He rides with Bender.
He's from Cali, so no, not a local to Rampage.

He has a TON of pics on pinkbike of him airing out no footed cans, backflips, supermans, etc on his DH bike AND HT.

He's also spinning 360's on his DH bike. That's impressive alone.

He has to qualify still, so props to him for trying. If he looks sketchy or out of his element, I'm sure they'll pull him. I for one hope he makes it in and does well!

Robbie Bourdon had one of the gnarliest natural lines ever ridden in last year's rampage (on a 7" travel freeride bike!!!). I thought he deserved better placing, but oh well.. Regardless, he was in the finals so he was automatically invited this year, which I think is awesome.

PS- I can't wait to see Faircloth ride at this event!!!!

Will does ride with Bender and the kid without question is ALOT better than the video for sure. He is in a bit over his head but thats based on skill not commitment.
He is a hucker, yes he does tricks they are not all crankworxed out they are bit sketchy by that comparison but he can out send 95% of the riders out there, makes me wish I had more of his mindset and commitment for sure...

He does throw cancans off BIG step downs and he has been pushing pretty damn hard this last season with the support of his parents at that...

So I hope he does well it would be good to see him go for it, as for the rampage I want to go this year.....

Good line up of riders ought to be impressive as always...

Martin recently got hooked up with an Evil Revolt for his big suspension needs. He still uses that old Hooker though as the word is he's not too happy with the new full suspension slopestyle rig from his official bike sponsor NS.

Have no doubts he can do well at Rampage. In fact the guy could probably kill it in DH as well if he just put some time into racing, he's a magician on any kind of bike.

You mean the one that looks like a tranny double/commencal sx/yt something clone? The NS fanboys over here will commit suicide by actualy getting on their bikes and riding ;) Im still kinda suprised he stays with NS as Im pretty sure there are other companies that can offer him a lot more.

He only got it yesterday from what I got from the ns guys so how can he be not too happy?

He had one back in early July when I met him in Sweden, or at least I think it was his as all the components where the same as his sponsors and it was standing outside his condo. Stealth black with NS stickers, looked pretty cool IMO. Rumours are rumours though, could've been whatever reason for not using it at Crankworx. NS is supposed to pay him well and make killer hardtails, which is his bread and butter after all.

I wonder which one is true as the info I god is from Waldo from NS and as much as I dont want to sound offensive - he is known for his BS. Maybe they changed something for now.

After Dan getting badly injured and Gee being on fire this season, do you really think he will risk injury at the Rampage?
Why wouldn't he? The race season is done as of this weekend, and despite his injury last year he's come back to clean up this year.

I hope he does do the Rampage again, has a distinctive style - hitting 30x40 gaps at 60km/h is pretty mental in anyone's books!

Money is money. I think he'd come back to it because he knows how well he rides and how good he could do out there again. With the potential to win, I think he'd look at it as another big payday and another thing to add to his resume. Gee is one of the best in the world at everything mountain biking. I don't know why he wouldn't want to go out there and show people what he's capable of doing.
