i'm thinking about starting an under ground race series in the santa cruz area. right now i'm trying to gauge interest. the logistics are pretty easy, but it needs to be kept on the DL. maybe keep it to max 25 racers per race, 5 race series, with a points series for those who want to participate in the whole series.

so i probably shouldn't be posting on an internet forum in the first place, but i don't really swap phone numbers with people i meet on the trail either. i know i see a lot of SC locs posting up on this board tho...it seems like the crowd here is generally more mature than pinkbike so i figured w t h...lets see where this goes

message me if you are interested

I will save the long list of reasons why you should take down this thread and NOT put on organized events on illegal trails and just say this. You like riding, great, but be smart and responsible with this shared resource. These are not your trails kid they are our trails and I want to ride them till I'm dead or crippled or both.

Please think about what you are doing and STOP right now. Don't blow it for everyone else. The rangers have shown they have more resources than they did previously and they will use them take out trails, put up fences, etc. A race is not like going out and riding with your buddies and it will draw attention even if it's "just" 25 per race. Large groups waiting, shuttling, hanging out, etc is not keeping it on the DL.

Now go ride and have fun doing it. OK flame away people.

No flame from me. I completely agree.

i know of a similar '"illegal" race series that has been run in a county just south of here for several years running now and no issues. its not as difficult as you think. i'm not talking about throwing course tape down the whole length of the trail, putting up start gates and finish lines etc. i'm talking about a bunch of people (who probably ride together on a regular basis anyway) all riding the same trail in a timely manner and a couple people taking a stop watch with them. honestly, i think people doing a dozen shuttle runs up the local roads would draw a lot more attention than this. its not like i'm trying to get red bull to sponsor it...

there is a group of riders that i see consistently meeting at the twin gates for a beer thirty ride every week. sometimes there is 25+ people. i'm sure that doesn't jeopardize our future one bit either

No, you're right, that sucks too and is similarly raising a higher level of inquiry, enforcement, and risk of losing trails. Oh and BTW, good job posting about that regular meeting.

You know it should be kept on the DL, and you say you're talking about something between friends. But, you don't seem to have enough friends to organize something like this without posting in this forum, and perhaps others. You can't have it both ways.

not sure how to read you on this, but its not like anyone who regularly drives empire doesn't notice whats going on out there. don't think me posting here is really doing anything, not like i posted date and time.

i just figured it would be a fun way to bring the locs together and throw in some friendly competition too. o well, i'm wasting time not riding now...

It's just not a good idea to post anything on a public forum about people getting together on a regular basis to ride those trails. Period.

If you're not a douche and you take the time and effort needed to make friends on the trails, you'll have plenty of riding buddies soon enough.

Reading this thread it seems like you have enough riders that post up where ever you talking about on a regular. Seems pointless to post an announcement or gather up riders on this forum, why don't you organize the race amongst these guys when you run across em? right? I don't ride that area you're talking about but I'm confident if you were advertising in my area I'd be concerned. I know the rangers don't eff around with that stuff and there are chances of shut down
