Not Mother's Day or a GES and the same weekend as Plattekill's and The Eastern States Cup announced first race.

Dammit

I am assuming no GES because it wasn't mentioned above

Hey Dennis,

We are on the same weekend as last year if my memory is correct.

I am only making the announcement because the early bird gets the worm.
Mothers Day & JMU Graduation fall on Mothers Day weekend for 2011.

We are not trying to compete with other events on the East Coast.

I am not able to announce GES series dates as thats Dan's Job.

I do not remember anyone racing prior to Massanuttens Yee-Ha!
Mud season usually hinders folks north of us from having events.

We posted the information on Cyclingnnews.com and our website 2 or 3 weeks ago
& I just decided to pass on next years date.

I did not see your response coming so I have been blindsided.

George

Not sure if it is a GES race or not, can't remember, but last I knew from one of my buddies a couple days ago, 2 courses were getting the boot and Attitash and Sunday River were going to be added to GES for 2011.

Pretty sure he said that Massunutten was one of the races that was no longer going to be GES and I can't remember the second one.

Supa8, what was the word?

We have not discussed with the GES director about 2011.

Alot of time and work goes on behind the scenes to make the GES happen.

Do not belive anything you read until the 2011 schedule is released.
I am amazed that announcing next years race dates can create such confusion.

oh man, that would be awesome. two more courses in the northeast! I wouldn't be heartbroken if they nixed one in the midwest aka eastern PA/MD....

correction.
I would have to agree on that one. By adding two more in the northeast that would pretty much kill the series for a lot of the mid-atlantic racers. It has been proven in the past, minus the ProGT the better attended races have been at Massanutten, Wisp, Springs, Platty and Blue. But if resorts further south don't want to hold GES races there is not much you can do about that.

yeah, anywhere farther then Platty for me is a hike...especially any of the NH or VT races...i wouldnt even consider Maine

i would not attend massanutten if it's not a GES race. no real dh trail network there and slow lift. i'd rather head up to Blue or 7Springs and get in some fun laps before/after my race run.

the only Northeast places I'm willing to make the long drive to next year will be Whiteface, Highland, and Plattekill.

the reviews i heard about killington were lukewarm at best. granted this was just little snippets of conversation overheard in the liftline amongst GES racers. i'd check out mt snow again, partly because i've been there and have left some small pieces of myself in Yardsale during Nationals way back when.

Killington is superfun. There are many better choices for a race course there. The venue is building like crazy and it is getting better every time I go.:thumb:.

Voncooper Productions has done a great job with GES can't wait to see what they come up with for 2011. just hoping they stay away from the 4 "S mountains.....Sunday River, SugarBush, Seven Springs and SnowShoe.....they are all good hills but after 4 years of following GES 19-29 cat 1 group ..... I'm burn't on the travel

Hey Folks,

You have to see the big Picture here. We are the East Coast. It is very
hard to come up with the correct formula, but I can promise you that anyone
living and racing on the East Coast is very lucky to have the GES.

All of your suggestions are great and keep em coming. We all have opinions
but the director has the most complicated job to bring it together.

More series and More races will dilute the racing, We need to keep it tight
and everyone needs to communicate so we do not have conflicting dates.

GES might range from Florida to Maine and have a South and North Champion
one day. It would take a parntership among directors and we could all meet
in the middle for the finals.
We have to look at the venues and location where lifts are spinning.

The South will rise again. I am happy to see the resurection last summer.
Lets keep it real and understand its a job for one man to travel the whole
east coast. Hope to see all of you next April in Virginia.

Seems to me like the logical thing to do is have everyone that raced in the GES the last few seasons put their home zip code into an Excel spreadsheet and through advanced algorithms find the combination of race venues with the lowest average combined driving distance for everyone. ;)

Massanutten has always been one of my favorite races, the combo of the first race of the year and you HAVE to be fit going into a long race course really pushes me to train over the winter. Track is getting faster and more flowy every year. Ill be sad if it doesnt make the GES cut, :( Ill just have to come down and race anyway, see if I can make it 4 podiums in a row there :D. Oh and I think its awesome being able to race PRO and OPEN class, gives you 2 chances to put down a solid run.

Hey Dennis

Thanks for the kind words and motivation. Massanutten Resort is proud of the WC
trail from 1997. I raced DS in 89 and Dhill in 1990 at Massanutten. The ski office
is very lucky to have the same Mtn Bike Director in charge for all of those consecutive
years. HOO-HA! with DS Est 1989 YEE-HA! Dowhill Circa 1990

DHD & Von Cooper have not set up the GES for 2011 at this time of year. I assume
they are digging out from a very busy 2010.
The jury is out on what the GES series looks like for 2011.

I hope you all have a great Ride today and dont forget Timberline West Virginia spinning
lifts in Cannaan VAlley. Wish I could of made this weekends Event. Thank JR.

GES schedule TBA.
