I think he just didint train enough to be on the defensive. He has the same problem many Mma fighters do (Pelhares anyone?) - he is only good when he bullies someone and completely looses his **** when he is in danger.
Gonzaga did it, though it was much less apparent due to more experiance.

As for Kampmann vs Shields - unfortunately the rules are stupid but acording to them Shields won. Please change them. Though I have to agree with his level of wrestling he will be insanely dangerous. It makes me sad though.

I thought he defended pretty good against Carwin even tho he got rocked early on, but you do have a point.
The thing is tho, hes big enough to bully allmost everyone...
Interesting to see whos up next, Dana should get his **** together and get the winner of Overeem vs Werdum to the UFC, even if its just a cross event like Pride and k1 did with Shockwave Dynamite.

Kampmann did even better then I expected, I knew he had shields on the stand up but I think he totally surprised Shields in his grappling game.
If this would have been a title fight Shields would have gone down...

Im pretty sure shields wouldnt drop to a lower weight class for a title fight. That 20 lb drop in one day was really stupid.

As for cross events. I wouldnt count on that. Dana and co really aim at monopolysing the top trier of MMA.

jake shields=human blanket. I hate his style of fighting. He just lays on the guys and keeps them from doing anything and in doing so, does nothing himself. It ends up being a lay down war. I'd like to see him fight someone like Anthony Johnson. I think he'd kill him if he could keep the blanket technique under wraps.

Dana doesn't want to do any co-promotional fights because he doesn't want his guys to look like tools. It would be like the time Chuck went to fight in a Pride tournament and he lost in the second round, actually to Quinton Jackson.
Oh yah, and if anybody though Fedor wouldn't be able to beat Brock if they ever fought, I think Cain proved that Fedor probably could. Fedor and Cain fight pretty similarly.
Anybody see Alvarez demolish Huerta the other night? Man, that dude is good. He'd shake up the whole LW division in UFC.

I think Carwin could have beaten Lesnar had he been more selective of his shots. Cain didn't waste many throws and looked fresh at the end, he could have gone 5 if needed.

I think Carwin has a shot against Cain. If he can make it past the first 2 rounds anyway.

pride didnt hold their side of the bargain and let wandy into the ufc, im sure that didnt help with future co-promotions

At least Brock showed some respect after the fight.
MMA Fans these days, its like watching WWF...
Im suprised they go even lower than kids on pb. It kinda makes me hate the sport. They worked really hard to loose the brutal streetfight cage fight mumbo jumbo badge but apparently the fans want it back.

My thoughts exactly, people dont know what theyre talking about anymore and they just wanna see blood.
I guess this is what mainstream does to a sport, weather we want it or not.
Just hope the new gen fighters are wise enough not to get into the bull****.

Yeah, it actualy shows that regular people are the ones who want blood and are savages, not the sport. Actually it may sound like a pussy opinion but I dont really like to see a fighter seriously damaged. As bikers we know the pain of knowing you are injured you have to pause and rehabilitate ;)

I think it has more to do with Brock being a jackass to everyone out of the gate. He had a title after 2 fights and wants to be an ass like he is owed something for just being there. It's not about the blood so much as he is an ass and people don't like him.

Did you hear the crowd when Koscheck walked in? Not only was the booing loud, but they started a GSP chant.

Yes but we have to understand he comes from WWE background. He had to be an ass there.
Also that doesnt really happen for unpopular guys like Brock or Kos. For other fighters there is just less people or people are less vocal about it but still want to see it. A bit like people wanting to see crashes in dh/wrc/fmx/donkey races.

Though I understand the hate for fighters (especially Kos) I dont want them to be killed or sent to the hospital. Being dominated and humiliated in the ring is punishment enough for being an ass.

It's official, Dana merges the WEC with the UFC.

The UFC and the WEC each had its own lightweight divisions and their own champions, but those divisions will merge. WEC champion Benson Henderson will defend his title on Dec. 16 against Anthony Pettis. The winner will meet the winner of the UFC lightweight title fight at UFC 125 between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard later in 2011 for the undisputed belt

The UFC will simply fold the WEC’s bantamweight and featherweight divisions into its stable, giving it seven weight classes now, joining lightweight, welterweight (170 pounds), middleweight (185), light heavyweight (205) and heavyweight (265). WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will make his UFC debut at UFC 125 when he defends his title against an opponent to be named. The UFC will recognize the winner of the Dec. 16 fight between Dominick Cruz and Scott Jorgensen as its bantamweight champion.
<edit> I haven't watched the WEC as much since I changed cable systems, but I always dug the little dudes. There is no lay and pray in the featherweight.

I'm hoping Aldo comes in and moves to 155. He'll demolish so many of those guys. It would be just like seeing another Pro fighter (like anderson and gsp) against a bunch of expert fighters.

I echo this sentiment.

From what Dana was saying, he wants a 125 division...that could be fun (in addition to the 135 and 145's just because I love watching mini-me's fight... (I'm 6'7" 260 for reference...)

Good lord man. Are you friggin Hong Man Choi or what? I hope you ride a 29er cuz you probably look funny on a 26er. I'm not small, and i make my 29er look like a normal bike. I'm only 6'1

I don't know if HMC fights anymore. I was just throwing that out there for a reference. I actually never even saw the fight between him and Fedor.

Any of you guys watching those Bellator fights? Those are better than i thought they were going to be. Huerta got owned. I've never seen him get dominated like that.

gawddd that main event was frusterating to watch. Marquardt just needs to let his hands go, he's so good but had NO confidence. His combo's are amazing when he throws them...look at how he finished wilson gouveia...

Glad to see Dennis Siver win with some serious conviction, he's an animal.

Yeah, Siver did really good. Andre Winner doesn't suck. I did think it was funny that he couldn't figure out how to get the choke sunk in for a minute. Even with Winner only being able to defend with one arm.

I can't decide if i want to see Machida run through Rampage next weekend.

I have a feeling if I got the fight, I would be a little pissed.

A 23 second knockout, and then the typical Machida duck-and-cover style would be a little boring.

Though Page wasn't better. This is the 2nd fight where he is overly cautious. It pisses me off because this way he won't win **** (well unless he fights other defensive fighters like Lyoto)

Main event fights NEED to be 5-rounds...don't care if they're for a belt or not. OR make the first round a 10 min round. I cant hold it against some guys that it takes a round or two to feel things out. The 3rd round of the Machida/Rampage fight was great, and you know if they had another two rounds it would be gooood. Machida haters need to stuff it...he's a defensive/counter fighter, deal with it. See the respect Rampage had for him after the fight? Being cautious and elusive is a serious skill. Go watch K-1 if you don't like strategic fighters.

BJ looked good. Fast hands and serious power.

Lets be honest 3rd round also looked great because rampage was gassed. When Machida was on him he wasn't active at all. Imho 5 round fights are bad because some fighters don't have cardio for 3 so 5 would be a snooze fest.

I didn't see the fights last night, but i read about them. 10 minute first round FTW! Most fights in PRIDE were getting finished in that round because those guys back then weren't fighting for points as much as they were just fighting to win.
If main events were 5 rounds long, they'd get finished. People like seeing fights get finished. If these so called "best in the world" fighters can't finish their opponents, then where are we going to go so we can see some knockouts and submissions?
If Rampage was as tired as it sounds, I'm sure Machida could've finished him in a 4th or 5th round. That's what people want to see. Finishes.
On the whole "defensive fighter" thing about Machida. Sure, he's good. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be where he is. But his style is boring as hell. What if the other guy goes in there and just backs up like he does? Will there even be a fight? Or will it be like when you get magnets close to each other? Machida is good, but his fighting style of waiting around forever to do something and running marathons backwards in his fights gets pretty old.
I'm hoping some of that new blood shakes up some of those guys. Phil Davis? Is that his name? Young brotha that's been rocking the 205 world. same with Jon Jones and Bader. I would love to see those guys fight some of the top guys. Two of them can actually finish fights.

Fights were indeed kinda boring.
Machidas self defence clinics are getting on my nerves and should be heavily punished in scoring. If youre not moving forward, points should be deducted.
His style might keep him safe in the street, but this isnt what cage fighting is about.
The 10minute first round might be a sollution indeed, and if a fighter is gassed out its his own fault if he gets finished.

Unfortunatly i dont see this happening anytime soon...

That was the problem yesterday. Rampage wasn't agressive at all. Only when fighting Machida there is no other way to go forward. He was forced to be the agressor. I still think we saw a very similar Rampage to the one that fought Rashad only the matchup was much more favorable this time.

As for finishes - as the sport progresses we will see less and less one sided fights on the top. The fighters will be to close skill wise. Though on the way it may be great. Well unless we get talent like Pacman. He is always fun to watch.

I hate when fights go to decisions. These guys are the "best in the world", yet most of them won't try to work out of someone's guard. They'll just stay in that position, trying to punch through it. Gay as hell.

On another note, Aldo pulled out of his upcoming fight due to injury. That sucks. That dude is amazing.

I did hear that there was some guy on the last fight card that was a leg kicking mofo. I heard his standup was some of the best people have seen in a long time.

That's what happens when the sport progresses. Unless you have an awesome skill advantage over your opponents there is little place for finesse and if you want to be the best (ie. not the peoples champion but real champion) you will probably play safe. Though agree some people take that idea too far. I for example can understand GSPs safe playing, he is still fairly active, not pretending he is the Ussain Bolt of MMA (Machida). I think even though I was dissapointed with this fight more than Mir vs CC I'd give it to Page any day. I want agresive fighters even when they are at the same time cautious. Though Page lost a lot of his fire too.

Sakuraba is great though. I also quite like the new LHW crop of wrestlers. Their skill advantage is so high their fights are pretty entertaining (Jones, Wonderfull)

Fighters will often be very tentative in the championship bouts. The undercard is usually more exciting, and I wish they would make all fights 5 rounds.
