I've only had the '11 40 for a few weeks and it's the first 40 I've owned so I can't compare it to previous models.
I will say however that it was a pleasure removing my old 06 Boxxer WC and placing it in a dark corner of my garage , hopefully never to be used again. The difference in the damping alone is incredible. The 40 is so much stiffer , the trade off in weight gain doesn't bother me at all.
I have been riding the cartridge all season with no problems. The first day I switched to Kashima I felt a big difference in reduced stiction. The new bladder is worlds better as far as reliability. I didn't blow a bladder once all season and in the past that was not the case. If you do have a problem with the bladder you will not feel it beginning stroke due to the flipped cart design. I think they are a lot better but I am biased so take it for what it is worth.
