feral said:One of the public, urban parks near Boston, the Middlesex Fells, has been undergoing a review process of its trails policies which have restricted MTB access for over 20 years with a set of rules that benefit an elitist group of conservationists - otherwise known as the Friends of the Fells.
The Fells is a high-use, urban park that is used by mountain bikers, hikers, joggers, dog people, families, etc. It has over 120 miles of trails. MTB access is allowed on 1.5 miles of singletrack. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has a proposal out for comment that is a good start at reversing the decades-old inequity.
However, we discovered on Friday that the Sierra Club and the Friends of the Fells are going to try and shut the whole process down by trying to get the designation of the Fells changed to a Forest Conservation area and they will then use that to maintain current inequitable policies or further restrict MTB access.
We need help. Please go here: http://www.gbnemba.org/fellscomments and lend us your support. Your support comments will go directly to DCR. Pass the word around and thank you!
